Scott Brown Finds Himself On Tea Party's 2012 Hit List

Scott Brown

WASHINGTON -- Tea Party activists didn't have to wait for the results of the 2010 elections to start conspiring about their targets for the next cycle. Sen. Orinn Hatch (R-UT) has long been considered a primary target, alongside Bob Corker (TN), Richard Lugar (IN) and Olympia Snowe (ME). All of the aforementioned are Republicans with a penchant for working in bipartisan fashion, some more than others.

One surprising name popping up on the 2012 target list, however, is an individual that the Tea Party turned into a cult hero of their movement. Scott Brown (R-Mass) has spent the past ten months in office building the framework for his reelection. He's worked with Democrats on a variety of economic initiatives while siding with the Republican caucus on other measures. He has been, as conventional wisdom goes, about as conservative as one can be in Democratic-leaning Massachusetts. But, for some, not conservative enough.

On Wednesday morning Red State's Erick Erickson put Brown on his list of "Potential Tea Party Targets for 2012."

Erickson's site is a hub for Tea Party theology and was one of the earlier indicators of the wave that would define the just-completed cycle. So his inclusion of Brown is noteworthy, not just in what it potentially foreshadows but also because it is an indication of how dispirited conservatives are with the man they helped elect.

That said, while Massachusetts showed some conservative trends in 2010, it's hard to imagine (at least at this point) voters there rallying around a new candidate after the euphoric victory of the first.

Who cares. Let them try. MA has had its fill of two faced politicians after Romney left. The only reason Brown won is because Coakley was such a lousy opponent and Brown knows this. If you look at his voting record, he has voted just about every single vote "nay" that both Neal and Kerry, both extremely well respected here in MA, voted "yea" on. He's not even trying.

When I wrote him on the subjects of DADT and the Dream Act, his reply was an extremely thinly veiled excuse to justify party line voting and obstructionism. It's like he knows his time is limited. It will be a pleasure to see both Brown and what ever ridiculous candidate that the Tea Partiers come up with for the run up to 2012 kicked to the curb.

Brown lied to the People, and did nothing but worked for the Lobby, he forgot his State, he voted against things that would help his State.

Yesterday's hero is today's demon. This is why the teaparty won't last. They have no principles, no ethics, no commitment..

Scott Brown wasn't elected in Oklahoma. He was elected in, and, theoretically at least, serves constituents in Massachusetts. Do the Tea Partiers understand this? Do they know where Massachusetts is on a map, or politically?

Oh, nevermind. Of course they don't.

Their ignorance goes without saying. That aside, if they want to work to defeat Scott Brown by putting an even more rightwingnut to primary him, I'm all for it. Then the Dems will get that seat back. Maybe Christine O'Donnell can move to Massachusetts since I doubt she has much mojo in Delaware anymre. She could live in Salem. I'd switch parties at primary time just to vote for her!

Does the Huffington Post encourage journalistic dishonesty? Did any of the readers follow the source for this article? Do you realize that Brown's name is ONLY listed as one of the Republicans up for election next cycle and NOT listed as a potential target? Yeah, that's right. The whole premise of this article is fabricated from something that was never said. See that little link in the article that says "on his list"? CLICK IT. HP lies again.

The party of Polarize and Proselytize - or find yourself a new job. Our way or the highway. Are you with us - or against us? Sounds like the Third Reich just before they started WW II...

Massachusetts isn't really a blue state, propaganda from the right notwithstanding. Mitt Romney was elected twice as governor.

But it is a pro-choice state. Remember Romney was not anti-abortion while he was governor and then discovered he was really anti-abortion when he ran for the Repub nomination for pres. It may be Scott Brown's anti-abortion stance that hurts him next time if he gets a Dem who actually competes for the office and doesn't think that getting her name on the ballot is all that is necessary.

MA isn't a blue state? You must be joking. The Massachusetts that I live in is most certainly blue. Just because Romney was elected twice means nothing. He even joked that he was really a Republican in a blue state. Even HE knew it. The only reason Brown won is because Coakley was such a bad candidate, and even then he didn't win by all that much. No, his time is limited and he knows it.

Ah, there's a magazine waiting for you somewhere, Scott. I'm sure you're used to bending over by now. Although I'm sure it's terrible to be eaten by your young.

Democrats won every seat up for grabs in Massachusetts, so I'm not sure what "conservative trend" the author meant. Scott Brown.............no amount of money will get him reelected.

This must be like Hitler's hit list in Nazi Germany. The very existence of a hit list, show how backwards the tea baggers are!
