11/ 5/10 06:46 PM ET   AP

Alaska Senate Race Lisa Murkowski Joe Miller

WASHINGTON — Here are the congressional and gubernatorial races that remain uncalled after Tuesday's election:

___

Senate

Alaska – Write-in ballots accounted for 41 percent of the votes counted so far, with Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski the most prominent of some 160 registered write-in candidates. Republican Joe Miller trailed with 34.3 percent of the vote. Absentee and questioned ballots were being counted Friday and the counting of write-ins will begin Nov. 10.

___

Governor

Minnesota – Former Democratic Sen. Mark Dayton leads Republican Tom Emmer by less than 10,000 votes, well within the margin that would trigger an automatic recount under state law. Election officials are recanvassing county votes before the Nov. 23 certification deadline.

___

House

Virginia District 11 – Rep. Gerald Connolly, a Democrat, led Republican Keith Fimian by less than the margin that could trigger a recount.

Kentucky District 6 – Democratic Rep. Ben Chandler had a 600-vote lead over Republican Andy Barr, who has asked the state to recanvas the votes from the 16-county district.

Illinois District 8 – Democratic Rep. Melissa Bean trailed Republican Joe Walsh by less than 600 votes. An unknown number of absentee and provisionals ballots remained to be counted.

Texas District 27 – GOP challenger Blake Farenthold was about 800 votes ahead of Democratic Rep. Solomon Ortiz, who has indicated he will request a recount if the margin remains this close.

New York District 25 – Tea party Republican Ann Marie Buerkle leads Democratic Rep. Dan Maffei by 659 votes with all the precincts counted. An unknown number of absentee and provisional ballots remain to be counted.

Arizona District 8 – Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords leads Republican Jesse Kelly by just over 3,000 votes, with an unknown number of absentees still to be counted.

Washington District 2 – Democratic Rep. Rick Larsen leads Republican John Koster by just over 1,400 votes as the counting of mail ballots continues. Koster had led Larsen narrowly in the election night count. Washington counts mail ballots that arrive days after the election, as long as they are postmarked by Election Day.

California District 11 – Democratic Rep. Jerry McNerney leads GOP challenger David Harmer by 134 votes as officials continue their post-election count of an estimated 20,000 absentee and provisional ballots.

California District 20 – Republican Andy Vidak had an 1,800-vote lead over Democratic Rep. Jim Costa, as officials continue their post-election count of an estimated 20,000 absentee and provisional ballots.

SHOULDN'T THE DEMS JUST THROW IN THE TOWEL? NOT HARDLY?

With control of the White House (which is all the W had in his last two years in office), the control of the organizing party in the Senate, the Dems still have the edge if they will use it.

AND LET'S COMPARE SOME NUMBERS:

This current House had 255 Dems and 178 GOPers.
The next House will likely have 191  Read More...

Nice, Texas.

Well the Pubs won in Fla because of hanging chads...they then wheeled out the Supreme Court and with 5 Pub judges won the election
Then in Ohio it was DIEBOLD to the rescue in OHIO with the count much higher for the Pubs in some counties than there were people living there gave the win to the Pubs again. and oh yes DIEBOLD was the largest contributor to the Pubs. Seems like the Dems can not get a break, maybe next time as I am really fed up with spending billions a day on fighting the two wars that will never end. Maybe its time to write Prez Obama and let him know that its long overdue to bring our kids home...just do it.

Alaska has fewer residents than Cincinnati. But a week after election day, Alaskans are still trying to find somebody who can count.

Come on HP, how much can it cost to change the 11 to a 10? Giffords-AZ-D was announced last night as victor (happy dance here). The least you can do is change it to honor Keith Olberman as a contributor to her campaign.

The death panels will be by default ie: the Repugs who repeal the enlargement of medical coverage for people & kids who will once again be without coverage.
Because jamming Obama up is more important than taking care of sick Americans.

California AG race extremely close as well, with Steve Cooley (R) leading Kamala Harris (D) by about 20,000 votes, last I saw, with about 1,000,000 more left to count.

It is shameful that it will takes weeks or months to decide these races. 48 hours should be enough. Fifty years ago all ballots were paper and were counted by hand and results were ready the next morning. Just do it.

The US population has increased by more than 70% since 1960. Also, accuracy is generally more important than speed of result. Why is there is such a high expectation of government action and yet such a low appreciation for it?

0k, so it takes 2 days.

It is undemocratic to let the results linger for months. The votes were cast 5 days ago. Waiting doesnt make the count any more accurate.

Rick Larsen leads John Koster by about 4000 votes. Interesting race. Larsen is leading overwhelmingly in San Juan County one of the smallest in his district. Whatcom County is the other where he leads. John Koster leads in Skagit, Island and Snohomish Counties albiet barely.

Why does Murkowski always look like she is about ready to pinch a loaf? A little bran would fix that you know.

Murkowski and Miller... who gives a shite! Murkowski is one of those who voted against stimulus, then posed with giant check. But she did get a taste of the GOP strong arm...they deliberated added write-in candidates to the official list just to confuse voters. And like hanging chads of 2000, if Murkowski isn't spelled exactly right, then ballot will be rejected. Perhaps Palin will send staffers to bang on the walls of the counting room and make them stop, as DeLay did in Florida.

I'm hoping it moderates Murkowski, now that she realizes that the GOP and Tea Party don't support her, and that she (probably only) won only b/c of moderates.

your information about write in ballots is distorted...ADN, WAPO, Mudflats, Immoral Minority are good sources of information.

Ridiculous that Texas - 27 would vote for a republican. The GOP pulled a fast one in one of the poorest places in America: Brownsville.

In Minnesota, the Democrat won by 9000 votes. It's not too close to call, it's just too close to void a recount. As a true conservative, I think that the Republican candidate should concede instead of feeding the Republican John Birch Society beast.
