29th Chicago Lesbian and Gay International Film Festival Starts This Week

Reeling, Chicago's Lesbian and Gay International film festival kicked off Thursday, bringing some of the world's best LGBT films to Chicago.

For ten days, 54 films will be screened at various theaters across the city, though most will be shown at Landmark Century Theater in Lake View. Instituto Cervantes, Columbia College Chicago, Chicago Filmmakers and ShowPlace ICON Theatre will also host some films and events.

The mission of Reeling is to recognize the important artistic contributions that lesbian, gay and transgender filmmakers have made to our culture.

We rounded up some of the festival's most anticipated films:

The Stranger In Us

A San Francisco newcomer tries coming to terms with his abusive ex-lover, and in the process befriends a street hustler.

Elena Undone

The ultimate complicated relationship: A lesbian falls in love with a straight woman who is married to a homophobic pastor.

Over The Moon, Hens and Chicks

These two films follow gay couples as they decide to expand their families by having or adopting children.

Kill The Habit

Lesbian drug addicts, a murdered drug dealer and an urgent bris? This film officially wins the strange plot title and we haven't even seen it yet.

Strapped

A routine trick at a man's apartment propels a cynical hustler into a series of strange and life-changing encounters.

Bloomington

A former child TV star from California goes to a Midwest university to discover how romance can affect a usually confident woman.
