Aldi Rizal, Chain-Smoking Indonesian Toddler, Kicks His Habit (VIDEO)

WATCH: Chain-Smoking Toddler Quits, But Others Tots Light Up

The two-year-old Indonesian toddler who sparked a global outcry when footage of him chain-smoking cigarettes went viral has finally kicked his habit.

MSNBC reports that two-year-old Aldi Rizal, who smoked up to four packs a day and was said to throw tantrums and even vomit when he couldn't have a cigarette, attended five weeks of intensive daily therapy in Jakarta -- trading tobacco for toys.

Aldi's mother Diana said she was thrilled that her son was re-discovering his childhood. "I'm really happy," she said, though acknowledging the tot has gained substantial weight and still asks for cigarettes. "I'm so excited...my child behaves like other kids."

Though Aldi's success story is sure to please the millions of viewers who were outraged by the video, the situation throughout Indonesia remains dire. The only country in the Asia-Pacific region that has yet to ratify the World Health Organization's framework on tobacco control, Indonesia is reportedly the world's third highest tobacco consumer.

The MSNBC report also cites an even more shocking statistic: an estimated 25 percent of Indonesian children over the age of three have tried cigarettes, and about three percent are regular smokers.
