A ballroom lit with chandeliers of solid gold. A 50-seat theater and nine cocktail lounges. Three helicopter pads and six underground floors of parking.

These are just a handful of the amenities one can reportedly find at Antilla, the newly-completed Mumbai home of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani. Valued at a staggering $1 billion, the 27-story, 400,000-square-foot home -- which employs a housekeeping staff of 600 -- is being billed as the world's most expensive home. According to MSNBC, a glitzy housewarming party is planned for the end of the month and promises to be a much-sought-after invite among India's elite.

One less-than-savory aspect of the home which designers have yet to tout -- Antilla, named after a mythical island, also provides a bird's eye view of Mumbai's slums, home to 60 percent of the city's population. Named by Forbes as India's richest man and the world's fourth richest, Ambani has been slammed for building a "soaring monument" to the divide between the country's rich and poor.

Watch MSNBC's full report on the home here:

Update: This article originally stated that the house was built for $1 billion. It is currently valued at $1 billion, but was built for less.

An ugly building, but yes, it's original. It looks like a giant treehouse to me.

ok, if an Indian CEO can afford a $1 Billion dollar home, I'd say we can stop giving tax incentives to move US jobs overseas now. I don't see any US CEO's building $1 Billion dollar homes...

India;s eva Peron. Sonia Gandhi is going to this party hosted by Ambani. She and her PegIets are going to throw rupee notes from the terrace so the poor could vote for this feudal family like they have 85% of the time since independence!

It would be ugly, even it did not overlook and add insult to the Mumbai slums. This kind of excess is ugly whatever the country or culture. Architecturally, it is a nightmare.

Judgemental bleeding hearts annoy me even more than those suckers who come to India to seek Nirvana. ( A post on them some other time.)

And about that dinner, as you might expect, an animated discussion followed. Dont miss the irony that he was dining with us. Since he is from a developed/rich country is he more entitled to an expensive dinner than us, citizens of a poor country ?

Dear bleedin heart, spawn of a welfare society, S HUT UP! I probably earned my beer more than you earned yours.

To annoy you further, one time, I ate so much, I could not stand up.

You know, India has a very Ieftist socialist c0mmunistic culture. Although the Hindu religion has a goddess for wealth and what not. and Indians are traditionally capitalistic in nature. Particularly the Sikhs for example are very enterprising and wealth creators for India. This neo Nehruvian socialists have made Indians ashamed of wealth creation for they have been so focussed on weal…err poverty distribution for the last 60 years. In spite of bringing this alian socialistic culture to India, some Indians have unashamedly thrived under capitalism.

And Although I generally don’t care for people flaunting their wealth so obscenely, I take great pleasure in sp!ting the communists and Maoist sypathizing “Intellectual” eviI like Arundhati Roys of India. I love it when they get upset with these things.

I say to Mr. Ambani. Thank you and Give em heII!

LOL :)

But thats one fugIy building! :)

If you were even close to correct, this man would not have been able to build such a building.

Here's hoping his massive ego compels him to rebuild the slums, if for nothing else than to afford him and his family a better view.
