Follow The Guys From 'Due Date' On Their Road Trip (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 11/05/10 09:09 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

In the new film "Due Date" (which opens nation-wide today), Robert Downey Jr and Zach Galifianakis, as an expectant father and aspiring actor, race west from Atlanta across the south to LA.

It's a great route, and even better if you take it slow.

Here are Lonely Planet's list of things to do at main stops along the way.

Rise early, grab some bagels at Highland Bakery in Atlanta’s Old Fourth, and head out of town for the best breakfast spot in the South. Take Ponce De Leon Ave (Hwy 78) 15 miles east to the world’s biggest chunk of exposed granite, aka Stone Mountain Park. The centerpiece of a 3200-acre park is the Confederate Memorial, a relief of Robert E Lee and the gang that dwarfs Mt Rushmore. The park starts filling up after 10am, so it pays to get there by 9am. Take the (free) trail 1-1/2 miles up the mountain and have a breakfast looking out over the Atlanta skyline.

I say that it is time to take those terrorist anti American losers off of Stone Mountain and replace them with President Lincoln, General and President Grant and General Sherman.

Uuuuh I hate to break it to HP BUT the Ft Worth Stockyards and Billy Bobs (located in the stockyards) are in a little town called Ft Worth Texas. In fact there is another city smack BETWEEN Dallas and Ft Worth called IRVING TX.

FYI:Stone Mountain is NOT in ATLANTA...it's in of all things Stone Mountain, GA...imagine that.

There's more between Dallas and Fort Worth than just Irving.

that's a heck of a detour from Phoenix to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and think it would take more than 5 hours, think it takes 5 hours alone just from the South Rim to the North Rim. But I guess you said that.

Okay, in Tucson, just north of: do the Biosphere II tour and in Tucson, just south of: Pima Air Museum, which abuts the moth-balled airfleets at Davis-Monthan AFB. Might as well walk up Sabrino Canyon while you in the Tucson area as well, know I would again if I were there.
