CRAZY: Woman Solves 'Wheel Of Fortune' Puzzle With One Letter (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/07/10 05:06 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

This has to be the luckiest (and most ironic) "Wheel Of Fortune" guess ever made. With just one letter "L" and the clue "phrase," a contestant named Caitlin makes a bold move (by "WoF" standards) and asks to solve the puzzle. The shocked look on Pat Sajak's face when she gets it right is priceless. Hey, she just had a really good feeling about it!

That is nothing. At home I remember having a final jeopardy that was 8 letters on top, 4 on the bottom with a hyphen in the 4 letter spot on the top row. The clue was "event."

All-star game was my guess and I was correct.

Did the play the final jeopardy music too?

I don't think there is anything fishy about it. She should of stayed calm and made some money off the puzzle. I think she was excited to see if her answer was correct. Also realize that she had another clue. The apostrophe word. Just how many 3 letter words are there with an apostrophe between one letter and the other 2? If you are in to crypto puzzles...

Agreed. If I were her, I would have kept spinnin' that Wheel.

if it was rigged i think they would have had more excitement, Pat isnt that great of an actor. and his reaction was very "real". he just seemed in shock and at a loss for words and unsure how to react. or at least, if it was planned, i dont think he was in on it.

Like a lot of other "seasoned" Americans, we watch WofF most nights. The solve in question was outstanding, but over the years there have been times when one or the other of us makes a solve with no letters. Of course our solves with no letters are usually wrong, but ya gotta get one right once in awhile, dontcha?

This to me sounds strange that someone would want to solve a puzzle with one letter. Is it part of the ratings game? I think so. If I knew the puzzle I would have spun again and go for the real money. After all it is all about chance. I smell a dirty rat on this one.
11:16 AM on 11/10/2010
I don't smell any rat at all. Not only is there a "bankrupt" space on the wheel, there's also a "lose a turn" space.  She just didn't want to risk that, especially the latter one, I'm sure.  And she didn't have much to lose by guessing.  Like other posters have said, sometimes you can guess what the phrase is with no or few letters.  Go for the real money?  How many times do you see people who know it, go for the money, and wind up not winning, because they land on "lose a turn"?  Very risky approach.

Watching at home over the years, I've been able to do that a couple of times myself. Once in a blue moon, the first thing that pops into your mind IS the right answer. That's awesome.

Simpleminded: vote for repubs in the last election even though they caused/continue to cause havoc in our country. simpleminded. In my opinion.

I agree, this doesn't pass the smell test. In fact, what I smell is a scandal a'la "Twenty One" in the 1950's.

Come on, dullards! There is no hoax here, just a smart puzzler. When you are always watching this show, or doing crosswords and the like, you can develop a skill for what seems impossible to those with an "untrained" eye. For those who are baffled at at he lack of greed on her part, you can hear her say, "This is a prize puzzle, right?" before she solves. So she was not about to quit at $900, but the prize (trip to the Caribbean) was enough, and I would have done the same for a WoF prize myself!
