WATCH: New Program Encourages Snacking In Class To Teach Healthful Eating

No eating during class... except if it's a plum or a stick of celery, an increasing number of schools are telling students.

More than 130 elementary schools in Florida are participating in the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.

The program, which is geared toward low-income schools encourage students to nosh on their pick of fresh fruit and vegetables provided by the school and to learn about the benefits of broccoli alongside their multiplication tables.

Teachers say kids have been happier and show better concentration during lessons from the healthy snacks. But just as valuable are the "teaching moments" the produce provides.
