2010 National Roller Derby Championships (PHOTOS)

The best roller derby athletes in the country gathered in Chicago this weekend for an "uproar on the lakeshore"--the 2010 Women's Roller Derby Championship.

After three days of fierce competition, the Rocky Mountain Rollergirls from Denver became the Women's Flat Track Derby Association's 2010 Champions, defeating 2009's champs, the Oly Rollers, from Olympia, Wash.

Though the host team, the Windy City Rollers, didn't bring home the championship title, they were still excited to have 7,000 fans and skaters in their hometown.

4. Philly Roller Girls

Actually it was a better team that cost them the championship.

I was at a watch party, online viewers were almost 3,000 for the last game which was won in the last second by one point. Very exciting.

The OlyRollers should have won--bad reffing cost them the game and championship. On top of their awesome skating, two of the skaters (sisters) had babies one month ago and had to drive from Washington State to Chicago with their babies. Incredible athletes all.

By bad reffing do you mean the fact that RMRG had more penalties and two players foul out?
If the reffing was bad it seemed to be more costly to RMRG than Oly.

RMRG still won with players in the box on nearly every jam.
