Earthquake Boosts Divorce Rate in Southern China: Experts

Experts: Earthquake Led To Rise In Divorce Rate In China

More people got divorced in Southwest China's Sichuan province than in any other part of the country in the first three quarters of this year, with some experts blaming the devastating Wenchuan earthquake in 2008 for the phenomenon.

The China Daily quoted Ministry of Civil Affairs sources, as saying that some 1.3 million couples got divorced nationwide in the first nine months of this year, and Sichuan topped the list of divorcees with 102,596 couples untying the knot.
