Glad to hear that you are OK, Jane. Keep fighting the good fight! Remember, this country dissed the French in 2001 only to find out later that they were right too!

Jane gets demonized for telling truth to power. There are many who can not accept that we were wrong to interfere in Vietnam, and they would silence anyone who pointed out the nakedness of the Emperor.

Many pioneer doctors and famous scientists were discredited by the establishment as charlatans when they discovered new cures or developed better treatments for diseases.

The Medical profession is a multibillion industry with powerful lobbyists that protect the industry from innovative cures that might outdate chemo therapy that would put millions in the medical field out of work or reduce their high revenues.

We all know that Greed often overcomes honesty in any profession, but cannot be tolerated in the medical field.

Always seek a second or third opinion when diagnosed with a serious or terminal illness.

I appreciate Ms. Fonda announcing her own bout with cancer, as it should serve as a cautionary tale to all of us. Early detection! The one thing missing in these comments is that men are at risk for breast cancer too. In another post, I note that the Atlanta Journal Constitution just did a story on a father and daughter who are going through chemo together, as they both have breast cancer. The father said he couldn't believe breast cancer could occur in a man! That sort of ignorance must be brought home to all men and we ladies can do something about that! Have your male companion accompany you to your yearly exam and have him examined too! The life you save could very well be that of the man you love!

Early detection is a fabulous thing if you have insurance to cover a mammogram or have money to get to the doctor when you feel a lump, but not every woman has that luxury now because of our "health care" system. I know I personally haven't had a mammogram for two years now because I have no insurance.

I feel badly for those who have no health insurance, although when I lived in the UK, until I was 50, they would not give me a mammogram on National Health. I have a friend who does not have health insurance so they have a savings account for her yearly mammogram. Money is tight and it is a sacrifice. I think there are some low cost programs out there so maybe you could investigate those. Be sure you do self exams every month. Good luck to you. I am blessed to have health insurance through my husband's job, although it he were to lose it, I would be in the same boat as you are.

Check with your local health department or local hospital to see if there are any free/low cost screenings available in your area. I have seen them advertised in the past where I live. Best wishes.

Hope she's doing well.

However, Prostate Cancer strikes more often than Breast Cancer, kills nearly as many, yet gets less than 50% as much research funding, according to the NIH.

If those figures were reversed, there would rightly be widespread cries of sexism, as there should be in this case.

Most men die with prostate cancer, not from it and comparing it to the very dangerous and fast growing breast cancer is like apples and oranges. We women have organized to fight breast cancer. I have participated in 3 fund raisers this year for breast cancer. In fact, just this Wednesday my husband and I took out a couple for a day on our sailboat. We auctioned it off for a breast cancer event and raised several hundred dollars doing so. If men would organize themselves for prostate cancer, then perhaps it would be a sucessful in fundraising as the breast cancer fundraiser are.

Prostate cancer is a cancer that progresses very slowly. My father has had it for over 6 years. He regularly has it checked out but no action is required. He was told he most probably will die from something else.

Jane Fonda is one of the strongest and most courageous women I klnow! And smart. She'll do all she can, survive and be an inspiration to others with this as she is for so many other issues!

I hope Jane reads my post, because there is A LOT we CAN do about breast cancer and ALL we CAN DO is not always the focus of the mainstream media or the average doctor. People need this all important info.:
