Super Efficient Crew Builds 15-Story Chinese Hotel In Just SIX DAYS (VIDEO)

First Posted: 11/12/10 09:31 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:10 PM ET

Behold China's real estate boom, in time-lapse! It took just six days to build the Ark Hotel in Changsha. According to the video, no stationary cranes were used in construction and there wasn't single injury among the site's workers. Hat tip to Good

The finished building stood 15 stories and used prefabricated columns (the foundation was apparently already built). Better yet, because the building's parts were factory-built waste was minimized.

6 days to build and how long to pay for an apartment? 50 years if both you and your wife have a job? Great!

I don't know if any of the workers there could afford one, since they only worked 6 days.

It saddens me to read these comments, because it seems that a lot of Americans' first reaction to this article is with disdain, suspicion, and sometimes outright mockery. This is particularly unfair, given that the people making these comments do not know any of the technical details of the structure. Rather than try to belittle the chinese people who designed and built this structure, we should be trying to find out how they did it and see if we can learn from it. If we can't put our arrogance aside, our country is going to quickly degenerate, and we can see that starting already.

US is going to be like China soon if the People don't do something about it. They won't have nothing to envy anymore.

How many workplace injuries during those six days?

"According to the video, no stationary cranes were used in construction and there wasn't single injury among the site's workers."
I'm pretty amazed. I don't think that they would build something like this and make it of shoddy quality because if it breaks, than they'd be in huge trouble and they'd never be taken seriously again and they made it so that they would be taken seriously.

that is why we need to get rid of bureaucracy and the miles upon miles of red tape

Very interesting. You couldn't pay me to stay there, though.

They said the same when the electricity first hooked up a house.

Did they? If so, I can see why. But the two situations are not parallel. With your example, you have a new technology that no one understands yet. With the China 6-day wonder, you simply have what we already understand done much, much faster.

why are you a hater ?

Maybe, or maybe it'll turn out to be more or less as stable than a job that took 3 months to accomplish here in the US due to huge amounts of red tape and a lot of poorly skilled, inefficient, lazy construction workers who often show up to the job hungover or high (yes, I've been involved in construction, I know what goes on there).

I think I'll stay someplace else. Notice no fireproofing on the steel risers? Notice no fireproofing between the rooms?

This is a disaster waiting to happen.

Yep... we are doomed. Can you imagine the Unions letting this happen in a city in America?

And they rested on the 7th day... God Bless China!
09:50 PM on 11/15/2010
Most likely they moved on to another house. Chinese don't rest ... they have the strongest impluse to build the next biggest thing, or the fastest thing ...

Haha =) That's probably true.

Being raised in the construction industry this IS what our small businesses have been trying to do for 20 years. But there is no money in prefab and 1 week construction. They continue to push the idea of worker ants taking 60-90-120 days to construct a gas station, house, olive garden, working with raw materials on site, around a rule book, and filling up a 40 foot trash can every week. Ive worked in framing, roofing, steel. The construction industry is struggling because the powers that be just like in any other business will not take a hit for 5-10 years to make our construction industry better. Instead they will do like the captain that never tells you the ship is going down and let us think its all good.

So watch it all the haters below because this is the new wave of construction. Plus the house/building your typing in is just as shady. Trust me I framed them with drunks, pot heads, rednecks, felons and immigrants. Just sayin

It's only a new wave when a Nation has a massive Rail infrastructure to transport those prefabbed concrete slabs to major projects.

Otherwise, it's a pipe dream.

You argue from a Construction Industry position and I'll argue from a Mechanical Engineering position.

You and Tyrione obviously know a lot about this topic. However, from a person who isn't an expert like the two of you, I would be afraid to stay in that hotel. A building like that done in 6 days doesn't fill me with confidence.

Building a hotel in 6 days is easy. Having it still standing after 6 weeks is the hard part.
09:50 PM on 11/15/2010
It has been more than 6 weeks ...
