This is great for anyone beautiful, beauty doesn’t discriminate and flower’s fragrance last for so long. See me in forty and tell how beautiful I am. Good luck! any model that can make an outfit look great deserves his or her props, Please buy or shop for the outfit, not the model is the key to any ad.

I'd say that at this point in history, trans-people are about at the stage where gay people were right after Stonewall; people knew about them, they were a bit of a curiosity, and were best kept out of sight. I'm beginning to see this change ever so slowly, and it's a good thing.

Hopefully, Americans will collectively discover that just like gays, the transgendered have no real agenda other than buy milk, pick up dry-cleaning, pay electric bill, etc. There will unfortunately, never be 100% acceptance in America for LGBT, (it's just a sad fact) but it's good to see that the trans-community is making a start.

True but there isn't 100% acceptance for any minority group, even in Europe which is always just a bit more developed than we are. In our country, just look at the reaction to Obama...no way in hell he would have been elected even 20 years ago but here he is, President, Black and with his middle name being "Hussein". That is just unbelievable progress in this country considering it's racial history (including 9/11). But looking at the reaction to him in some quarters, clearly the hatred directed at him is at least partially racial (I guess the fact they won't admit it is a sign of progress; God knows 50 years ago, they would have.) There is even prejudice among Black Africans: there, instead of it being racial, it's ethnic or religious. Unfortunately, group-think (and hate) is part of the human race, an ingrained trait that we probably needed for survival at one point and now are trying to slowly evolve out of (and by the way, Trans people get it from my fellow gays too; you should see some of the horrible things gay people throw their way.) It'll probably take many thousands of years more of evolution before our brains and hearts grow big enough to accept everyone AS THEY ARE. Til' then, we just muddle through...

I am an avid fashion observer and firmly believe in live and let live BUT I draw the line at fashion magazines putting a transsexual on the cover. I have no interest whatsoever and would cancel my susbcription

While I applaud her being accepted into the style mainstream- I never would have noticed she wasn't a genetic woman except for this article. I wish her luck in the ongoing struggle to be true to herself (No matter what the style industry or anyone else says). For those who feel uncomfortable around transgender individual's- this picture should make you uncomfortable because it highlights that you CAN'T always figure everyone out just by how they look on the outside (no way you knew she was transgender without the headline).

I completely support transgendered peoples right to do and to be anything they want. And, yes, she looks beautiful. But I have to say that as a woman, it is a bit upsetting to read that a fashion designer is using a genetically male body, which still looks like a genetically male body (no hips, no waist) as a fit model. As a fashion model, no problem. But creating clothes that are supposed to be for women's bodies on a basically male form is really disturbing to me.

Hrm?

Most models are tall and have wide hips, whether "genetically male" or not. I don't see why you're pointing out this model in particular; her body is well within the norms of what photographers / designers look for.

(She doesn't look to have a "genetically male" body -- she's just tall and doesn't have wide hips. There are plenty of "genetically female" bodies that look this way.)

She doesn't have wide hips, and she has no waist. I'm betting that 99% of the women who looked closely could tell that the body was male. There is practically a straight line from the armpit to the hip - and 99.9% of women simply aren't built that way. Even on the most boyish figures, there is a noticeable curve in women's bodies where their waist is. Look at the picture again. Where her weight is on her left leg, straight line. Where her right hip is jutting out, the movement of the hip is the only thing forming a curve. If she was standing straight, the line would be straight.

I Read somewhere that around 80% of Transsexual Women in the United States cannot afford
to get their _Sex Reassignment Surgery.

Thats tragic and sad.

Which highlights why a inclusive ENDA bill is important. Because it's quite difficult to transition when you don't have employment.

and it's much cheaper for them than their female to male counterparts - who have the additional disadvantage of being paid lower wages while women.

The question of course remains will she break ground beyond the fashion canvas and appear in national campaigns or can we ever expect Lea T the super model or film actress? And perhaps more interestingly would anyone be talking about Lea T if she just happened to be an ordinary model? But since when did ordinary make it on fashion covers anyway…?

Many Transsexual women, who still look like men, and are not considered "attractive", probably have a very difficult time being accepted as women in society.

Hopefully, these Trans-woman have real friends who love and accept them, unconditionally.
