Lingerie Football Banned Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett has said no to the Lingerie Football League.

The league is made up of teams featuring women playing tackle football while wearing halter style tops and tight shorts under their football gear. The league had said it hoped to have a franchise in Oklahoma City before the next season that starts in August.

Cornett said Thursday "there are too many problems to list" and he will not let the LFL play in any city-owned venue.

League chairman Mitchell Mortaza said Cornett is taking away the freedom of individuals to choose what sporting events to attend.

What business is it of the government if women wearing next to nothing want to play football? I'll tell you. Nothing.

The best thing I saw while in Oklahoma was the sign "Welcome to Oklahoma" in my rear view mirror.

I once had a really good job in the oil industry. After my company merged I was offered to transfer to Oklahoma or face losing my job where I was. I chose to lose my job rather than moving to be an OKIE.

If they had beaches, I wonder if he would try and ban swim suits.

Exactly what I was thinking. If only they had pistols as part of their uniforms they'd be fine in the banana republic of Oklahoma.

prude religious influenced this outcome. lets be real. Im no fan of this league, but of the players... yes. I think its a novelty, but to ban it, is ridiculous. I HATE religious fundamentalists.

Both sides are right. Players should make less money, and the owners should open up their books.

When professional sports leagues play in taxpayer-subsidized facilities, their books should be open. And when franchises play markets against one another for the largest subsidies, they are interstate commerce that should be federally regulated.

I love pro football as much as anyone. I've had season tickets for over a decade. But that doesn't mean you let the NFL run roughshod over fans and taxpayers.

They had to do it. Otherwise the Lord and the Founding Fathers would have brought down a plague upon the city. Hallelujah!

The lingerie part is just a gimmick. It's like volleyball dress with pads. I've seen some clips of the games and it may shock some: the women are athletes and play to win.
