We pay for things like the hotel and the rental car with credit. That way I can contest charges if I need to when I get home. Most everything else we take the debit card and use it to get money from the ATM and spend cash. If you limit yourself to $X a day and it's gone, it's a great way to budget if you stop when it's gone.

Also, whatever you are using, be certain to contact your bank and let them know that you will be using it out of town or out of the country. They'll put a hold on it and you'll be without until you can fix it if you don't.

>>>be certain to contact your bank

haha. My bank knows I live out of country and we've had several discussions that my debit card would be used mostly in East Europe. Came back to the US on vacation and discoved my debit card 'is not authorized for this location' - the location being at the branch I deal with. Had to wait until the next morning to get them to open my card up for US withdrawals
