Haley Barbour Punts On 2012 Announcement Timeframe

JACKSON, Miss. — Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour says he's not setting any "artificial deadline" to decide whether he'll run for president in 2012.

Barbour has deflected questions for months by saying that as chairman of the Republican Governors Association he has been focused on getting his party's candidates elected.

With the Nov. 2 elections over, Barbour has returned from a brief vacation. At a news conference Monday, he was asked anew about possible White House aspirations.

Barbour says he wants to see if there's "somebody who has a better chance of winning than I do."

He says he and his wife have begun talking about the possibility of a presidential run, but his duties as governor are his priority for the coming months. His second term ends in January 2012.

Just heard from a good source that Bob Riley is considering running. He'd have a better chance than Barbour. Heck almost anyone would have a better chance...LOL

Given how the presidency ages a person - even someone as oblivious as GWB - I'd fear that he'd be dead of a heart attack within 6 months of taking office. McCain looked to have better prospects of surviving one term of the presidency than Barbour.
