UPDATE: Esquire's November issue and the scantily-clad Minka Kelly have received Apple's approval: the iPad edition of the magazine is now live in the App Store.

--
Minka Kelly's nearly-nude photoshoot in Esquire's November issue--which pictured the starlet, dubbed "sexiest woman alive," stretched on silken sheets clad only in lingerie--may be too hot for Apple's App Store.

According to a report from Mashable, the iPad version of Esquire's November issue has still not made it to the App Store, although it's been weeks since the publisher submitted it to Apple.

Mashable writes,

The issue is simply too risque for the App Store, one source familiar with the matter told Mashable. The publication has submitted a revised version it expects to be approved in the next few days, around the time the December issue is slated to hit the App Store.

An executive at Hearst said that Apple has not, in fact, communicated at all to Esquire since the issue was submitted to the App Store, despite multiple entreaties -- nor that the publication has submitted a revised version.

The App Store is known for taking a hard line on X-rated content. Earlier this year, Apple decided to "to remove any overtly sexual content from the App Store," according to a statement from the company at the time, and pulled thousands of suggestive apps that had previously been approved.

Esquire wouldn't be the first publisher to fight Apple over its R-rated guidelines. Apple reportedly asked German publisher Springer to censor one of its apps.

See photos from Esquire's November issue below. Do you think the content is too suggestive for the App Store?

Quick Poll

Esquire's November issue:

Too hot for the App Store.

Evidence first. Believe later. Maybe.

I hate these "sexiest" this or that things. I mean, what, they checked out all 3 billion or so women on the planet? She is definitely a true beauty, but better than every other woman on the planet? Silly.

Sounds like Steve telling me what you can and can't do with my phone again. All I want to do is watch South Park online for free...

Who is Minka Kelly besides Derek Jeter's see men depository?

She has a nice body, yeah, but those white panties are *h*o*t*. I would love to see my girlfriend in them.

Oh, yeah, you should also read the interview with her. She actually sounds pretty cool - for instance, she pauses her conversations during dinner to thank the staff who bring the bread and remove the plates.

so long story short, you don't actually *own* the iPad, you're just renting it from Apple. Gotcha.

Since when does the maker of a phone get to tell us what that phone can be used for? Do the car makers tell us where to drive in the vehicles that they produce?

iHate Apple!

They certainly do not, unless they know they have developed a poor quality single use niche product that cannot handle certain roads....

Yeah, all that skin. Why can't there just be bone, blood vessels and ligaments?

I think the depth of the comments in here can only be measured with a micrometer.

I generally prefer women with narrow figures and without the, uh, after-market enhancements. But I do like shiny black hair. I never heard of this chick before, but she certainly gives me a Boehner.

The Android will eventually dominate over the iphone, not because of open source, not because multiple carriers, not because of diversity of design. Andoird will win because Apple is run by prudes.

There are no winners, just consumer preferences. I have a Beamer, my neighbor a small Toyota. That doesn't make me a winner. Buy what you like and can afford.

You are thinking from the point of view of the consumer. From the business point of view, what possible advantage is there to trimming your potential market to "prudes only"?

I wonder if Tim Riggins has these photos taped to his cell wall.

Ever since George Clooney was voted "THE SEXIEST MAN ALIVE!!!" I've never been able to take these pronouncements seriously.

As to this story, I mean PLEASE, she's a VERY attractive young thing, but you can walk down the street in most large cities -- foreign and domestic -- and see more amazing women than this.

Nevertheless I'm sure Minka Kelly would have made my high school years more interesting.

George Clooney...... You mean the man with the liquid dark brown eyes from which I can hardly remove my glance long enough to enjoy the cleft chin, the self-conscious smile, the James Bond-like mystery, the brains, the conscience.... That George Clooney?

I respect your opinion, and certainly don't mean to say that you, too, should find him sexy. I just got inspired when I saw his name! : )
