Joe Paterno Congress

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. — Penn State's Joe Paterno has been honored by Congress for his 400th career win.

The U.S. House passed a resolution Wednesday lauding the Hall of Fame coach after the Nittany Lions secured his latest milestone with a come-from-behind victory over Northwestern two weeks ago.

Pennsylvania Congressman Glenn Thompson sponsored the resolution. He says it was appropriate to express support not only for Paterno's record, but the coach's overall achievements on and off the field.

Thompson's district encompasses State College. Thirty-one representatives also signed on as co-sponsors, including Pennsylvania's 18 other U.S. House members.

Penn State plays Indiana on Saturday in Landover, Md.

Westrn Pa needs to re-name a county after him. He told his dad after graduating Brown he was going to be an assistant coach at PSU " for a few years" to make money to pay for eventual law school. That was during the Truman adminsitration.
Joe Pa =.One of a kind...... consider this: .after his first national title he cashed his poltical capitol immediately to demand of the university - a better library system for the students.....

Congress honours Joe for his "Historic" win while they dishonour multi-millions of Americans by refusing to extend their unemployment benefits in this Yuletide Season. I love it!

Kudos to Joe, but lets remember he wasn't the first to do it either, just the first to be honored by congress.

Well deserved for Joe Pa if for anything his players graduate and must attend class or they don't play. I don't care if Joe Pa is a Republcian the fact that Penn State has never been investigated by the NCAA or never been put on probation is enough for a congressional award.

Now if only Congress can disband the BcS and force a playoff and have real champion in division 1 college football decided on the field and not by polls and computers.

I agree and I am including my military career (22 yrs) younger brother who is known as Little Rush in my family. Thanksgiving is going to be so much fun with the two of us in the same room when he starts to use his stats he gets from Rush Limbaugh and Brother Beck. It is going to be fun to shoot down his facts next week.

Be kind to him..keep it sublte.. ask him in private why repubs hate so many types of people.. That might induce the healing Scrooge dream sequence for him next month.

Congress - so busy. Good thing Christine O'Donnell hadn't been elected a US Representative as a Democrat or they'd now be moving on to witch trials.

Meanwhile, in Hershey, the Penn State College of Medicine is quickly working on Futurama-type Head Jar technology before JoPa's demise. :D

Your point? The man can still coach! And probably forgot more about football this week than you'll ever know in your lifetime.

Did they find any time to squeeze in a vote on extending unemployment benefits?

Great story, but y'all at Huffington mispelled "Congress" in the article headline.
