Hezbollah, Rafiq Hariri Death Connection Found

Rafiq Hariri

The Washington Post:

A Lebanese police officer and U.N. investigators unearthed extensive circumstantial evidence implicating the Syrian-backed Hezbollah movement in the February 2005 assassination of former Lebanese prime minister Rafiq Hariri, according to an investigation by the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

The U.N. International Independent Investigation Commission's findings are based on an elaborate examination of Lebanese phone records. They suggest Hezbollah officials communicated with the owners of cell phones allegedly used to coordinate the detonation that killed Hariri and 22 others as they traveled through downtown Beirut in an armed convoy, according to Lebanese and U.N. phone analysis obtained by CBC and shared with The Washington Post. The revelations are likely to add to speculation that a U.N. prosecutor plans to indict members of Hezbollah by the end of the year.

HOW ISRAEL AND THE US HOPE TO DESTROY HEZBOLLAH

"The US State Department Office of the Legal Adviser has proudly assured the White House that because its office insisted back in 2005 that the Special Tribunal for Lebanon be established under Chapter 7 of the UN Charter, anyone who the STL convicts will face sure UN justice. Chapter Seven allows for the use of unlimited international armed force to implement any verdict that the STL hands down. Washington and Tel Aviv intend that those convicted will not escape the full power of the United Nations system anymore than others earlier, including former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic."

It looks that after failing in the battle field against Hizbullah in 2006, now the plans are to destroy Hizbullah politically and use UNSC to defeat Hizbullah.

Knowing as they must that they'll get their clock cleaned for them again, I can only surmise that the Israelis would only be taking this action in conjunction with some plan hatched in Washington.

They have accused Syria based on false testimony and forged documents. The whole case against Syria was exposed to be a bad make believe story which were choreographed poorly and contradictions were found all over the case.

Now they are accusing Hizbullah based on the same false testimony and forged documents.

The only party who actually has benefited from Hariri's assassination, Israel has not even been accused.

The whole investigation stinks. The goal is to dismantle the only successful resistance against Israel occupation in Arab's history.

This will backfire.

Uh..lets not forget these Hezbollah gentlemen also bombed the Marine Baracks in Lebanon..killing almost 300 US marines!

Hezbollah didn't even exist in 1983, but my argue over semantics. Then you had to go back 27 years for an example, and it wasn't an assassination. It was a suicide attack.

Israel on the other hand, assassinates people all over the place, and exploding cars seems to be a favorite. This is from 2008, just 2 years ago that shows that the practice is still a favorite.

Watching the usual Israeli bashers support Hezbollah and Iran here is hysterical! Trying to blame Israel or its Mossad is laughable..as Israel wanted Hariri to succeed!!
09:38 PM on 11/24/2010
Israel didn't want hariri to succeed specifically because of he was bringing Hezbollah into Lebanese government.

Let's look at Israel's fingerprints in all this.

How awful! Everyone knows the only peolpe *allowed* to assassinate the opposition in the region is Israel... and the U.S.... and the current Iraqi government.... and maybe the Kurdish leaders... and the Afghanistan government. But nobody else! I recall Israe'sl execution-style murder of that American teenager some months ago.

I agree that Israel took what used to be Palestine, but there is a state called Israel for the sake of argument. However, it's supposed to stay within its 1948 borders, but it's hungry, land eating, nationalistic, apartheid system, but I am not sure what this has to do with Hariri's murder.
There is nothing pointing to Israel in this murder so far. You can't carry such an attack with such sophistication considering how well protected Hariri was without having some kind of intelligence behind you.

And as for the "48 borders ... that went into the toilet the moment the Iraqi and Arab Liberation troops invaded

You start a war, you live with the consequences and even Arabs are held responsible by some

You're a one-trick pony...and Palestine does no longer exist..thanks to the Ottoman Empire and the Jordanians,Egyptians and Syrians!!

so what else is new Hezbollah killed someone, wow .... is that supposed to be your idea of news.... this is something akin to saying wow Obama is black, wow i didnt know that... HOHUM
03:08 PM on 11/23/2010
umish, haven't you heard? It's only the evil Jews who kill people. It's never, ever Hezbollah.

I get why people hate Israel and some would say I also hate Israel - I like to think of my position as balanced and nuanced instead of a bunch of anti-Israel rhetoric and the crazy notion that Hezbollah would never do anything bad like assassinate someone who is reducing their grip on Lebanon.

Why is it not possible that both sides: Israel and Hezbollah are filled with bad people who do bad things like assassinate people. Why is it only Israel in the minds of some foolish, ignorant people?

When was the last time Hezbollah used explosive to assassinate anyone? My money is on Israel. They do it all time, all over the place, fake passports and all.
09:36 AM on 11/24/2010
So no Arab terrorists or suicide bombers could have done this..even though they do it all the time all over the world??

Seems like there are two ironically non-overlapping perspectives here:

option A- This is an Israeli ploy! Hizballa is the milk of human kindness and they would never be involved in something as heinous as this. It has to be that evil Israel! Manufactured evidence!

or

option B- This is an Islamic extremist ploy! Israel is a milk of human kindness and it would never be involved in something as heinous as this. It has to be that evil Hizballa. Manufactured evidence!

option c:  This is a CIA ploy

option d:  Rafiq Hariri was free basing and shouldn't have been doing that in a car running on methane.

Does anybody else find it suspicious that it took the UN FIVE YEARS and $200 million to come to the same conclusion that one Lebanese cop was able to figure out by himself in a couple of months?

Almost as though they were dragging their feet and didn't want to find anything.

$200 million? I'd like to see an itemized expense report on that one. I wonder if that figure is even true when one considers that the UN has an annual budget of $2 billion. Did they really spend 10% of the annual budget on a single assassination investigation?

Interesting, reminds me of another time hezbollah was blamed for something...

March 17, 1992: Israeli Embassy in Buenos Aires Is Bombed, Hezbollah and Iran Accused Despite Lack of Evidence

Twenty-nine people are killed in the bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The bombing levels the three-story building. Argentina, the US, and Israel will later accuse Hezbollah and its backer Iran, but provide little evidence. According to most media accounts and the US State Department’s annual report on terrorism, the bombing was the work of a Hezbollah suicide bomber who drove a truck into the building. [LOS ANGELES TIMES, 5/8/1992; PATTERNS OF GLOBAL TERRORISM, 4/30/1993; FOX NEWS, 10/5/2007] However, a technical report ordered by Argentina’s Supreme Court will find that the bomb was placed inside the building: “Court official Guillermo Lopez said that the investigation had ascertained that the explosives had been located on the first floor of the diplomatic headquarters. ‘The engineers established, with 99 percent certainty, the exact location where the explosives were and the quantity that was used.’” That conclusion is angrily rejected by Israel. [NOTISUR, 8/16/1996] The case remains unsolved. [HA'ARETZ, 3/17/2008]

Sheesh. When I read this article, I jokingly thought to myself that the usual suspects would find a way to blame this all on Israel.

I suppose I should have expected it, but dang! This place gets more surreal by the day.

If it's any consolation to you, I feel the same way too. Except that I'm more surprised that somehow, Muslims and Nazi Germany got dragged into it.

My official position is: "Israel would love to see Hezbollah taken down a notch, but until I see solid proof, I cannot commit to the idea that they are involved in this"
03:39 PM on 11/23/2010
Yes, incredibly surprising that Muslims would be involved in an assassination of a Muslim leader in a Muslim country A that was occupied by another Muslim country B, and a Muslim terrorist organization C funded and aided as a proxy arm of a third Muslim country D, when the Muslim leader was involved in contentious activities that brought him into conflict with the two occupying Muslim organizations B and C who were struggling for control of the government of Muslim country A.

It is just mind boggling that somehow the multiple investigations suggest that a Muslim was involved in the assassination!

It must instead be the JEWS!
08:14 AM on 11/23/2010
Israel is one of the usual suspects too.
