USA Launches 'Characters Unite Month' To Combat Discrimination

The USA network announced Monday that it is launching "Characters Unite Month," a month-long series of programs and public service announcements designed to promote tolerance and unity. The month will include a special documentary hosted by Tom Brokaw, as well as events co-hosted by the storytelling organization The Moth and the giving of special "Characters Unite" awards. USA has also set up a special website devoted to the campaign.

The documentary, called "Bridging The Divide," will see Brokaw focus on where Americans stand on a wide range of civil rights issues, and what progress has been made since the civil rights movement. It airs on December 10.

USA and The Moth will team up for a series of events hosted by Kristin Chenoweth. In the events, several storytellers will share their experiences facing discrimination.

In addition, USA will run PSA's featuring actors from its original series. The channel is also airing spots asking viewers to take a pledge against intolerance and discrimination. For every viewer that signs up on USA's website, the network has promised to donate $1 to selected nonprofit partners.

"Characters Unite Month" launches on Thanksgiving. Below, see two PSA's USA is running -- one featuring its actors asking viewers to take the non-discrimination pledge, and another highlighting the diversity of the holidays that people celebrate.
