Cathie Black might not have had a fabulous week in regard to her civic future, but at least she sold her house!

The New York Times reports that Black sold her five-bedroom, antique colonial Connecticut estate for $1.98 million, 15 percent below the $2.35 million asking price. The house sits on 23 acres of land, also owned by Black. The listing on Klemm real estate's website:

Antique in mint condition with first floor bedroom and bathroom, country kitchen, spectacular family room, wideboard floors, fireplaces, open porch overlooking meadows. Quintessential Connecticut country property with fenced in pool, fabulous guesthouse and garden with long western views. 27+/- picture book acres on a quiet road within fifteen minutes of movie theater and restaurants and an hour and a half from New York City.

If picture number 3 represents the home library, she's not much of a reader.

Oh. So she sold her place for a nice price? Now THAT disqualifies her to be DOE chancellor.

As a realtor, I have to say those are awful photos.

An hour and a half from NYC? Surprised she got this much $$$ for it.
Actually she has a penthouse on Park Avenue (way more suitable for her next 'job') and another house in the Hamptons.

Now her appt as Schools Chancellor (she was principal for a day for 7 hours in the Bx) maybe and I emphasize MAYBE a blessing in disguise. She is going to take ALL THE HEAT FOR ALL THE CUTS. The number 2 in charge of the educational side? He may come out smelling like a rose.

This house is nasty for the money.

An hour and half from nyc?? This appears to be said in an attempt to be a selling point.

Nothing at all warm about this house. The blue kitchen and living areas are not appealing at all (IMHO). I'll take my house, warm and comfortable, with cats sleeping in the sun next to the German Shepherd, on a mere 3 acres.

I could live with this house if I brought in sleek furniture and got rid of the green ugly kitchen. Plus I would have to warm up the bedroom; it's too stark and cold for my liking. The 27+ acres would be a real selling point.

23 acres or 27 +/- acres?
With that kind of funny math, she'll fit right in at Tweed.

Only part I like is the barn.

The public areas look like they need to be decluttered but then again I'm not a fan of this quaint country look.

Are you crazy? That house is very sparse.

This house is not sparse in contrast to the many other houses on this site. Like I said I'm not a fan of quaint country looks. There are too many little tables, baskets and spare chairs all over the place.

And just when we were getting ready to send her packing back to Connecticut. Perhaps the Lord High Mayor Bloomberg has an extra bedroom or 3 he can lend her temporarily while she scours the elite hills for another suitable abode.

Ms. Black has a palatial townhome on the Upper East Side in NYC.

Don't think her family will be out on the streets anytime soon, while they're looking for another Connecticut home.

Of course. How did I not figure that one out? Don't 'they' all have palatial townhouses on the Upper East Side?
