Chihuahua Recruited As Japanese Police Dog (VIDEO)

WATCH: Japan Recruits Chihuahua For Police Force

Apparently Taco Bell is not the only organization hiring Chihuahuas for work. The Today Show reports on a police precinct in Nara, Western Japan, which just recruited a Chihuahua to work as a police dog.

Momo, a 7-year old, long-haired Chihuahua passed a screening test along with 32 other doggy candidates, by finding a hidden person in less than five minutes. The dog will be used in rescue efforts, and her little size will carry big benefits. According to Reuters, officers hope that she will squeeze into small places during disasters such as earthquakes.

The Today Show reports that Momo is the first Chihuahua to join any Japanese police force in 50 years. Which makes us wonder... were Chihuahuas policing the streets in the 1950's?
