Harold Washington Library Among The Most Beautiful In America (PHOTOS)

This week, the culture website Flavorpill came out with a collection of the ten most beautiful public libraries in America.

To the surprise of no one who's seen it, Chicago's majestic Harold Washington Library was the third on the list. (Unclear if they're ordered by rank, or just randomly.) The stately 1991 building serves as the hub of the Chicago Public Library system; its red-brick façade evokes a Beaux-Arts style, while its roof is topped with soaring bronze acroteria. On the inside, the lobby's high ceilings, and the glass skylights in the Winter Garden and elsewhere, add to the sense of grandeur and scale.
