Prince William & Kate Middleton To Invite Members Of The Public To Wedding: Report

Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly inviting ordinary folks to their April wedding, but the invitations won't be sent based on a Willy Wonka-style lottery, People reports.

Various news outlets reported Wednesday that 100 members of the public would receive a ticket to the nuptials after their names are picked from a pool. An anonymous source who was repeatedly quoted said, "William and Kate wanted the British people involved at a deeper level than simply holding street parties. They were crystal clear on this from the outset and were delighted when the idea of a random selection was mooted. Those lucky enough to land an invitation will only find out when it drops on their door mat. Can you imagine? It's like winning a Willy Wonka Golden Ticket for your front-row seat in history."

However, People spoke with palace sources who speculated that public tickets would go to "campaigners for causes like homelessness, children's welfare," but added it was too soon to be specific.

Another royal source told the Telegraph, "We're not talking about a public ballot or some sort of lottery for tickets, but Prince William is patron of a lot of charities, for example, and he will certainly want to make sure that those organisations feel involved in the day."
