Thanksgiving Thursday marks the annual event featuring family gathering, lots of eating and way too much football. While it may seem counter-intuitive, there have been many great books written about football. From "Friday Night Lights" to "The Blind Side," we've gathered a list of the top 9 books to read instead of watching football this Thanksgiving. And even though you can't really shout at the writer that he or she made a bad call or called a stupid play, you might just find yourself totally absorbed.

I'm a huge fan of Krakauer and I'm fascinated by the Tillman story, but I heard the book was a big disappointment. Curious to hear from people who've read it. Should I buy it?

I like it, but I've only read the first dozen pages.

Boring football? Thanksgiving weekend is normally devoted to in-state rivalries, like Auburn (2) vs. Alabama (11) and Texas vs. Texas A&M, so they might be boring to someone not in those regions of the country, but a real football fan would find most games like these exciting.

I also enjoyed "Playing for Pizza" by John Grisham. A short novel, fast read and enjoyable story - could finish it during a football game.

I enjoyed "Everybody's All American"...but it is more of a novel based in a football setting. The movie was decent too.

What? No "Semi-Tough?" I know it's fiction but it's probably more real than many non-fiction books.

I'm female, and like some football. I read Vince Lombardi's biography. I highly recommend it.
