Barton Compares Boehner To Eisenhower, Cantor To Omar Bradley

Eisenhower

First Posted: 11/29/10 11:17 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:15 PM ET

John Boehner is Dwight Eisenhower. Eric Cantor is Omar Bradley. And Joe Barton is George Patton. That's according to a presentation that Barton plans to give to the committee of House Republicans Tuesday that will determine whether he wins the chairmanship of the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee.

Eisenhower, Bradley and Patton were accomplished leaders and revered generals, but they were also defined by the evil nature of their enemy, Nazi Germany. Barton, in a presentation laced with violent rhetoric, specifically refers to himself and other Republican leaders as in a "battle against the Obama administration." Boehner is the incoming House speaker and Cantor will be elevated to minority leader.

"Speaker Boehner is our Dwight Eisenhower in the battle against the Obama Administration," says Barton's presentation, which was obtained by The Huffington Post.

"Majority Leader Cantor is our Omar Bradley," it goes on.

"I want to be George Patton - put anything in my scope and I will shoot it," promises Barton.

The slide is headlined: "What's in Store for the Obama Administration."

Barton most recently made headlines for apologizing to BP for the Obama administration's aggressive pursuit of the company for damages in the wake of the Gulf Oil spill.

A Barton spokesperson didn't immediately return a call.

Sorry, blue eyes and a love of golf are not enough to bind these two in my book.   They are of such different political times and climes.   The GOP of Eisenhower's years is not the same party of today.   Odd that the right keeps slipping back for their 'comparisons' beyond both Bush administrations. How about THOSE years that did so much to get us where we are  Read More...

When I heard this I nearly vomited. Using a "limbaugh analogy" this man sprayed graffiti on those General's Monumental American Achievements. Eisenhower, Bradley, and Patton fought AGAINST warped ideologies and morally defective leaders, bureaucrats, and cogs. So did Lincoln, Grant, Sheridan, and Sherman for that matter!

I would have to say this ranks as one of the most outrageous and appalling statements of the year!

Yea, I guess Eisenhower and Boehner are alike, but in only one way that I see.

They are both males.

Barton is goofy. He has a hard time with reality. He never served in the military nor did most of the reining GOP members. Maybe we need more folks who know what it's like to "sacrifice" for your country. They have the nerve to go after the military records of others like John Kerry and Max Cleland, who lost three limbs for his country [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Cleland] or supporting the criminals in the BP oil spill. They also have a field day making up stories, false data and use Fox "Fake" News "Aires" (Roger) to sell it. These are BULLIES. They do not serve the people of this country. It's time the are exposed them for what they are. WRONG.

These GOP members are corporate shills. These GOP folks are arrogant corporate bullies.

Passing a bill to extend support for the hurting middle class is a good thing. Those in the upper 2% don't need their double profits/bonuses to live on. Only the greedy want it.

Bush/Cheney came into office in 2000 with a Clinton surplus the Democrats fought hard for. It's all about greed with the GOP now. The American people are pawns in their game for wealth and power. In 2000, Bush's first order of business was to give tax breaks to his wealthy friends, got us into two needless wars and threw tax money (98 BILLION DOLLARS still unaccounted to for) to his friends with Halliburton and Blackwater. What they gave in "tax breaks" was a LOAN as we are borrowing money from China to pay for them. The GOP blew the surplus a long time ago.

Many of these wealthy folks don't pay but a little tax, if any, with their tax skeems and overseas accounts. They avoid paying. Today's corportations pay less taxes than they did in the 1950's!!

FOR ONCE, let's put the needs of the middle-class ahead of these greedy folks who don't need it for the good of the country.

The only military term regarding these three "generals" that comes to mind is three "loose cannons."

Joe Barton recently said that he would like for public education to return to the same system he enjoyed as a child growing up in Texas—really? Joe attended segregated schools from kindergarten through college. Under Court order, Texas schools were finally forced to desegregate, years after Brown v. Board. Tea klan borgs like Joe, Tancredo and Rand want to return to segregated society. The republican mantra of restoring America’s “traditional values,” which is code for resurrecting Jim Crow, continues to be the guiding principle for Tea Klansmen, Limbaugh Borgs and phony Christians. Change invariably generates anxiety, which was the case in 1964 when President Johnson pushed the Civil Rights Act through Congress. Comfortable with the status quo, white southerners ginned up fear by proclaiming from their pulpits that granting blacks equal rights would transform America into a banana republic; thus, based on orders from degenerate Christian segregationists, blacks were systematically lynched. Fast forward, spurred on by the repulsion of a black president, and desperate to stop their hemorrhaging of political power, republicans have evolved into a regional, rudderless mob of bigots hell-bent on maintaining control through hate inspired misinformation. Fact: minus the bigoted hype, more illegal contraband flows through Canada than Mexico, a reality Tea Klan republicans conveniently ignore. Tea Klan republicans are petrified that the proverbial melting-pot is getting darker, which is why they have aimed their mob hatred towards dehumanizing Obama.

I'd vote for Eisenhower today in a heartbeat and I've never voted for a republican in my life.

I may be wrong, but I don't believe any of these 'new' genrals for the Republican actually ever served in the military. They probably scammed their way out of placing themselves in harms way. Wish I knew the names of some really famous clowns, because they would make for more fitting labels for these guys. That and I would love to see them driving in some little cars.

You are not wrong. Neither Barton nor Cantor served. Mr Boehner "tried" the navy but was discharged after 8 weeks for- I suspect- being a gutless worm like many of his republican cronies during the Vietnam conflict.

Poor Eisenhower, Bradley and Patton having to turn in their graves at the bleating of this dunce. A more appropriate comparison would be Moe, Larry and Curly. Who can fill in for Shemp and Joe when needed is still up in the air.
