A man is crossing the country dressed as Captain America to bring attention to homeless vets.

28-year-old Allen Mullens says though he isn't a veteran himself and has no personal reason for the walk, the issue has captured his attention and he wants to help bring awareness to the 33 percent of homeless men who are veterans WTVC reports.

Doesnt anybody but me realize that this fellow is suffering from some form of mental illness... and that he is doing the best he can to find purpose and be functional. If, in addition to keeping out of harm, he manages to increase public awareness of a VERY important group of people who have been abandoned by the government (which is to say, by US because we are our government) then more power to him.

Rather than be armchair critics of this modern day real world Gump, I invite everyone to ask themselves, "what have I dont for homeless vets lately?" I think I will visit my local mission tomorrow and find out if there is something. Or, even what I can do for returning vets? Or for homeless in general? Food banks? There is a lot of need out there...

As much as he reeks of tea, I can't help but feel a bit disheartened at some of the comments here- He may or may not be a tea bagger. His sign may be ignorant, and perhaps using the flag as a walking stick wasn't the best choice. But he is dedicated to his cause, and I don't think any anyone should fault him for trying to raise awareness for homeless veterans. Political assumptions aside, he's off the couch and bringing to light an issue that isn't often covered. Haters be hatin', but he's doing more for a good cause than most of us will do in a decade.

This man makes me feel like it's time for me to really step it up. Those who do the most for our country are left to drown, while the greedy rich get it all.

Liberal Arkansan is not a contradiction.

If he is truly walking to support veterans, why is he carrying a sign promoting his other positions, which are irrelevant to the one supposedly he walks for? I hardly think that "abolishing the government" will improve the conditions of homeless veterans. This is all a publicity stunt for himself and the Tea Party. The plight of our veterans is an important issue, but by bringing in other issues with his sign, he is insulting what he claims he walks for.

I could be wrong; he may be sincere (in his own way). But as of now, I'm not convinced.

Abolish the government? Yeh, that'll do wonders for homeless vets.

I've seen this guy at tea party rallies.
And judging from his "Abolish Government" sign, his brain is about as plastic as his "muscles".

I suppose there have always been slow news days.

But it's amusing to me that they try to imply that this is news and this guy really is trying to accomplish something.

But the fact that he wouldn't say... it's kinda telling.

He's clearly a half-wit, let him do what he thinks he can to help and be on your way.

He's not helping, and using the icon he has chosen makes it pretty obvious he doesn't know what the character or the flag he's using as a walking stick stand for.

Hey D-bag how about go volunteer at a homeless shelter instead of carrying a sign saying abolish the government!

Only the government creates wars and therefore creates homeless shelters.

Yeah, no one's ever fought a war for a church/religion or anything.

Never happened.... ONLY government.

Oh wait.

James, i see your reply but it's being hindered by the word filter. I never said i wished his end, and liberal is a label you've chosen for me.

The point is abolishing the government is hardly a means by which to help the plight of veterans. Homeless or otherwise.

This guy reeks of teabagger from a mile. Didn't even have to read his_stupid sign (abolish the government!)

Ridiculous. His little stunt trivializes the plight of vets who have been abandoned by their people.

I like his idea but I do have some questions/issues.

Does the front of his sign say "Abolish the government"? Who does he think is going to help homeless vets? Big corporations? Oh yeah they've been nothing but helpful.

Oh and neither Captain America or any soldier would use the American flag as a walking stick.

Excellent comment.

I agree with a solid percentage of his message, but he loses me at the end. Which is a shame, cause I'm willing to listen to anything said by Captain America.

it seems at least part of his sign says "Abolish the Government": there's your solution, no government, no military, no veterans.
