'Dynamite' Hanukkah Remix: Maccabeats Spoof Taio Cruz

First Posted: 11/30/10 11:13 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:15 PM ET

Just in time for the Jewish holidays, a cappella group The Maccabeats has recorded a spoof of Taio Cruz's 'Dynamite' -- 'Candlelight.'

"The war went on, and on, and on," the group intones, "until the mighty Greeks were gone."

And the chorus: "I throw my latkes in the air sometimes, singing ay-oh, spin the dreidel."

Taio Cruz must feel a tad bummed that the Mike Tompkins a capella version and now the Maccabeats version of "Dynamite" is almost as well known as the original. In fact, I find the newer versions more "fun" because the beat is so catchy....

I cannot stop listening to this song or watching this video! LOVE IT!! My 2 and 4 year old boys kept wanting to hear it all day as well. So happy I could get it on iTunes (along with their album)! These guys are fantastic and so talented. Although, I am not Jewish, I love this Hanukkah song. ;)

It was a pleasure to listen this inspirational Hanukkah song

Although I am not a Jew, I think the song is very inspirational. I'm not sure which testament says it but somewhere in the Bible, It states, "Make a joyful noise and sing a new song." I know I'm not getting the quote right, verbatim, but if you can reach people particularly the young on a level that they can relate to, you have a better chance of getting the message you want to send out across.

Psalm 95:1-3 from the OT: "O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods." (KJV)

This is cute but it's kind of a rip-off of Mike Tompkins, almost exactly. Six13's Chanukah video is much more original and fun IMO! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvY337zKttA
