This World AIDS Day, Cyndi Lauper has a simple message: wear a condom (and some lipstick).
Lauper, along with Lady Gaga, is a spokesperson for MAC Cosmetics' Viva Glam, the cosmetic giant's campaign to raise money for its MAC AIDS Fund. Through the Viva Glam campaign, Lauper and Lady Gaga each designed a lipstick (Gaga's is pink, while Lauper's is red), with 100% of the $14.50 sale price going to support the MAC AIDS Fund. Since its establishment in 1994, the campaign has raised over $190 million for the MAC AIDS Fund.
Lauper appeared recently at God's Love We Deliver, the New York organization that delivers food to people with HIV/AIDS, to discuss the campaign and urge people to practice safe sex.
"Remember to take care of yourself, protect yourself," she said. "The heat of the moment goes by quickly, but AIDS is for life. There is no cure, but AIDS is 100% preventable. Please practice safe sex and get a lipstick for your kid sister, your mom, one of your friends. Remind them to protect themselves. Every time you go out at night and put that lipstick on, let it be a reminder: give the gift of life."
