Food Safety Bill Senate Error Harry Reid

Roll Call:

A food safety bill that has burned up precious days of the Senate's lame-duck session appears headed back to the chamber because Democrats violated a constitutional provision requiring that tax provisions originate in the House.

By pre-empting the House's tax-writing authority, Senate Democrats appear to have touched off a power struggle with members of their own party in the House.

My biggest problem with legislated regulation is that it usually gets directed by the most powerful interests to regulate competition out of the market which in this case would have jeopardized many small farmers market vendors. Since the Tester-Kagan Amendment was added to exempt small farmers lobbyists like Robert Guenther with United Fresh Produce are doing anything they can to eliminate this exemption or kill the bill.
With the Tester-Kagan Amendment this would be a good bill.

This was the Monsanto Christmas Present from the criminal lame duck Congress. Once again, the Dems spent more precious time on fat-cat lobbyist bills instead of the economy. January can't come soon enough.

Not realizing that only the House can raise taxes is an error? You'd think all those really, really smart people in the Senate would know that already.

This government has become a disease. They people we have elected into office have grown too big for their britches! “We the People” have become dumbed down to the point of being a wandering generality. People need to wake up! Find out what is really going on! How about the poisoning of our foods and drinking water? Why aren’t people concerned with that? I will tell you, BECAUSE IT’S NOT ON TV!!! HELLO!!! TURN IT OFF!! Here are a few links to get you started! If you dare!

You take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe. You take the red pill and you stay in Wonderland and I show you how deep the rabbit-hole goes. Remember -- all I am offering is the truth, nothing more.

This bill needs to fail. There are too many unknowns, too many politicians receiving kickbacks and too much ambivalent language.

Given the state of our gov't for the last 10 years, I don't trust that this isn't a bill that will just benefit corporations like Monsanto at the expense of the small farmers.
