Republican Freshman

Politico:

They campaigned on bringing Main Street principles to Congress, but a large chunk of the rookie class of House Republicans will be bringing something else to Washington: personal wealth.

Nearly a quarter of the incoming class of 84 House Republicans have assets of at least $1 million, according to a POLITICO analysis of financial disclosure forms, a sign that this anti-Washington, anti-establishment crowd of congressional freshmen has been quite successful in the private sector.

Will I hope you Tea Baggers are happy....do you really think these people you elected give a heck about the middle class? They've got "their's" so the heck with everyone else...it's already started---Republicans want "tax breaks" for the rich to continue....and don't ever bother to reply with the stupid "they create the jobs cr@p", so they NEED the break, b/c it just isn't true--they create jobs okay and just send the jobs overseas....How about that Republican representative who ran against health care and then when he was elected was p&ssed off b/c he would have his tax supported health care for 28 days...

well duh!!

since it costs an o.b.s.c.e.n.e amount of money to run for office, it stands to reason that only the rich are gonna make it there...

so much for representing the grass roots constituents...

no wonder legislation is all about helping big corporations, and the rich folks.

it looks like there'll be a slew of laws favoring wall street, the rich, moneyed-lobbyists, and corp. As usual, the working class and middle class will be screwed....again....

Like the new rich millionaires are going to be concerned about we unemployed? Right, just like the old rich millionaires that are there now.
All the rich millionaires there now will be having a Merry Christmas with all the trimmings. How about all the children of those unemployed to young to understand this?

Isn't being a millionaire now a prerequisite for running for office?

It's a sad time for America as the political system is rigged to favor the wealthy few -- the special interests. Money now completely controls the process. From K St. to Wall St., average Americans have been left behind in a swirling tide of greed and shortsightedness.

The strong middle class that used to be a symbol to the world of America's basic fairness is quickly becoming a faded memory as more and more Americans are struggling to make ends meet while the wealthy seem impervious and unsympathetic to their suffering.

Such a system is destined for failure.

I would like to see that there only be a certain percentage of congress that fall within certain income caps in order to have a better representation of the american public it really needs to happen.
07:51 PM on 12/01/2010
First, it would require a Constitutional amendment. Second, how would you determine which states go what represented by money, how would that be broken up and which districts would be rich vs poor. What about the Senate. How would it be divied up? This is concept that is unworkable and would essentially discriminate based upon economic status. This would never fly.

Which explains why they don't want to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans, doesn't it?

I was going to say the same thing! They don't want to tax themselves.

If the Dems had any spine, they could use this to their advantage.

Make a commercial highlighting these people and their wealth and say, "The reason that they want to extend the Bush Tax cuts is because they want more for themselves. Do they really need it?"

If that doesn't fire up the progressives I don't know what will.

In the absence of public campaign finance and the tons of bucks flowing from corporations who else could afford to run for office. Whether Democrat or Republican the results will be the same. When very wealthy people are elected it is rarely because of a burning desire to make life better for the rest of us. In lots of cases it seems like a real good way to protect their wealth and in others it may just another private club one joins to separate themselves form the unwashed masses. In any event the original intent of the Founders for citizen government  is lessened each year by the cost to get into the game.

535 people in washington who care not for anyone but themselves and those who made them kings & queens. they all live by the golden rule, those who have the gold make the rules. what's that line from "network", i'm mad as hell and i'm not gonna take it anymore. i'm sure that applies to millions of americans but the crooks have a lock on washington and they are not giving up the key.
