It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in New York City. The 78th Annual Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting Ceremony took place on Tuesday, November 30. Performers like Sheryl Crow, Jessica Simpson and Josh Groban helped the crowd celebrate the start of the holiday season.

Here are some photos of the sparkly event:

Let me get this straight...

They cut down and kill a tree that has been alive for 100 years so that bozo's without a life can see all the pretty lights for 5 minutes?

How very thoughtful!

Cut down on the caffeine cap't negative.

As a Buddhist I value all life. But the tree will bring a smile to millions of people just simply walking by it. And the tree was most likely not killed, it was cut, it will re-grow. Even if it was killed, in doing so its karma will be fulfilled in that during its life, and in its death, it improved the lives of others (even if it is for just 5min) without doing harm to anyone/thing.

The humans who polluted the planet in order to get it here and use electricity... another story!!
