Andre Johnson Wired For Sound During Brawl With Cortland Finnegan (VIDEO)

First Posted: 12/02/10 12:32 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:15 PM ET

It turns out that Houston Texans receiver Andre Johnson was wired for sound during his fight with Tennessee's Cortland Finnegan. The two ripped each other's helmets off and Johnson landed multiple punches to Finnegan's face in the fourth quarter of Houston's 20-0 victory on Sunday.

In the video, Johnson told a referee that Finnegan was putting his hands on his facemask. The referee told him he was watching the Titans cornerback on every play.

Before the fight, Texans quarterback Matt Schaub warned the offense in the huddle that the Titans were trying to frustrate them. Scroll down to watch the video.

Lets See. Johnson holds Finnegan on every running play shown and blocks him in the back on another. The best thing is the Ref telling Johnson he saw the illegal block in the back and somehow forgot to flag Johnson for his dirty play. Then on the play before the fight breaks out, Johnson holds Finnegan and punches at the back of Finnegans head. I counted at least five penalties that weren't called against Johnson before the play in which Finnegan retailiates. If the Refs had done their job, the penalties on Johnson might have kept the acrimony from escalating. Johnson should have gotten a roughing penalty on the play before the fight and thrown out for punching at the back of Finnegans head. But by doing nothing the Refs guaranteed that Finnegans only recourse was to go after Johnson for his dirty play. It resulted in Johnson and Finnegan being thrown out and Finnegan being unfairly fined. If Johnson wasn't an NFL DIVA you would have been guaranteed a different outcome than the one that occurred.

Johnson showed great discipline in maintaining his focus while putting up with Finnegan's facemask grabbing and other infractions until the Texans were safely ahead. At that point he waited for Finnegan's next flagrant foul and when it came, punished him for his dirty play.

Grades:

Johnson: A+

Finnegan: F (perhaps D if this were Arena Football where he belongs).

Finnegan got burned so bad on that touchdown catch, a linebacker had to try and cover AJ. Finnegan was on fire he was getting burned so much, and he's a punk, as are the Titans. The Titans are a low class, cheap shot team.

#31 is a great defender in the "Danny Ange" sense of defense.

Another reason that Hockey is a man's sport and Football is for posers. If that was on the ice they would have just let them go at it. Who cares. If they want to fight let them. Then it is settled.

There is actual respect in Hockey. Football players lack real honor.

Hockey is boring and fights account for half of your fan base.

Also, there's nothing manly about gliding around an ice rink, no matter how tough they try to act by fighting every 8 minutes instead of playing the game like grown men.

Yes because stoping and starting the action every three seconds is so much more fun.

He deserved to get tossed, but 31 deserved the beat down too.

Finnegan was giving the cheap head shots all day. I would of tried to knock his block off sooner. Johnson played great and the comments after the game shows that he's a classy guy.

It's hard to make one's opinion on what happened based on a few selected actions. Looks like Johnson started the hostilities by hitting Finnegan in the back.

It was a BLOCK to the back.

AJ was being overly aggressive on that play.

Look at the photo above.

That's what a hit looks like.

Oh Please... they don't hit in rugby like they do in football. People hit in a much more dangerous manner when they have a helmet and pads on. The speed of football makes a big difference too. You don't have the same kinds of collisions. Plus rugby doesn't have 300 pound speed freaks slamming down blind sided 200 pound QBs

You obviously you've never seen a rugby match. Imagine football with no downs, straight-arming allowed, no padding/ helmets and ears that look like cauliflower from scar tissue (generally from being stepped on by cleats over the years).

When you hear the smacks, you know it isn't polyurethane, but skin and bone. Seriously, rugby makes football look like flag football.
05:38 AM on 12/03/2010
F-U! You don't know what you are talking about. There are very few full-speed impacts in rugby. Its usually about wrapping a guy up and waiting for help.
