Time Inc. has revived its long-vacant No. 2 editorial position in a major management reorganization that centralizes a far-flung media empire stretching from Menlo Park, Calif., to Birmingham, Ala.
The move, which will give longtime Time. Inc. editor Martha Nelson oversight of the company's fashion, entertainment and lifestyle titles, also signals a clear line of succession should editor in chief John Huey choose to retire.
Ms. Nelson, whose official title will be editorial director, will assume responsibility for a stable of magazines that have operated outside of Time Inc.'s traditional structure. Those include the lifestyle publication Real Simple and shelter titles like Coastal Living.
