Amber Heard Gay: Actress Comes Out As Lesbian

Already an emerging Hollywood talent, actress Amber Heard came out of the closet at the GLAAD 25th anniversary celebration on Friday, proudly announcing that she is a lesbian.

The 'Zombieland' and 'Pineapple Express' star, who will soon appear as Jonny Depp's love interest in 'The Rum Diaries,' came out with her girlfriend, photographer Tasya van Ree, whom she has been dating since 2008.

Speaking to the gay rights-focused entertainment site AfterEllen.com, Heard said coming out was both a personal and moral triumph.

"I think when I became aware of my role in the media, I had to ask myself an important question 'Am I part of the problem?'" she told the website. "And I think that when millions and millions of hard-working, tax paying Americans are denied their rights and denied their equality you have to ask yourself what are the factors that are an epidemic problem and that's what this is.

"Injustice can never be stood for. It always must be fought against and I just was sick of it being a problem," Heard said, adding, "I personally think that if you deny something or if you hide something you're inadvertently admitting it's wrong. I don't feel like I'm wrong."

As for van Ree? "She's so beautiful. I mean, you'd have to be crazy not to want to go out with her!"

I'm really happy about another luxurious couple for the team. I don't understand why it's so hard for people to believe that an attractive feminine woman is gay? There are Thousands of "queer or gay" people that are forced to live a lie because of fear and or because they sadly have no choice and they usually look Straight/Heterosexual. Happy that she can live authentically as I do. Just sendin love.

For me the most amazing realization of your assertion took place at the Armadillo World Headquarters one night. A van pulled into the parking lot with ten of the most beautiful women I had seen in Austin. The ten went to the concert together and danced the night away with - each other. Sorry, the American Psychiatric Association stopped classifying homosexuality as a disorder in 1973, the American Psychological Association (of which I am a member) followed in 1975. The DSM IV does not list it as a disorder. Time to come into the 21st century Stephanie. There's been a lot of advances in thinking since Nikon was in power.

I think Stephanie means that Hollywood is more into promoting those who are openly lesbian/gay/bi than people who have legitimate mental disorders (and sadly I also see very little support for transgendered individuals).
