Kennedy Center Honors 2010: Oprah & Paul McCartney Honored (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 12/06/10 08:17 AM ET   Updated: 05/25/11 07:15 PM ET

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle hosted this year's Kennedy Center Honors in D.C. on Sunday night.

Oprah Winfrey, Beatle Paul McCartney, dancer-choreographer Bill T. Jones, country singer Merle Haggard and Broadway composer Jerry Herman each earned the arts awards not only for their talents, but also for bringing people together, the Associated Press writes.

For the occasion, Michelle wore a beaded scarlet gown by Naeem Khan and silver earrings.

Check out who was there and scroll down for a better view of the First Lady's and Oprah's looks.

I just watched Steven Tyler do his best work ever during a tribute to Sir Mac! The lipstick was weird but his performance was great. Brought a lump to my throat. My generation may have it's faults but our music isn't one of them.

Arggh -- I covet that red dress on Michelle! That is ridiculously gorgeous.

Oh, and the award winners look nice, too.

You would think this article would mention when this is going to be televised, as it always is. It is a terrific viewing event.

Mrs. O is very glamorous, but sleeves once in a while, would be a nice change, especially in Winter.

Matthew Morrison is becoming sort of a Kennedy Center Honors regular. Not that I'm complaining, though. I'm sure he gave an incredible performance once again.

I wonder why Evan Ross doesn't go by his dad's last name Naess, the was a famous shipping tycoon and thrill seeker who died a few years ago.

Somebody tell Kid Rock that men wearing fur look utterly ridiculous.

Definitely agree! It looks even more rediculous wearing such attire at an esteemed event such as this.

Oprah looked a mess...i guess she gets so tired of being honored she doesnt take them seriously anymore. Nancy P looks so good for her age. MO looked great.

Oprah looked rich. She has done so much for a lot of people, I'm sure God was not rating her outfit.

I ask this every year. Does anyone know why Doris Day has not received this honor? She is an American treasure: big band singer, movie star, recording star, TV star, animal rights activist. Does anyone know if she was offered and turned it down? Just curious.

You never know. Katherine Hepburn refused it year after year because she went to bed early and did not like to travel. Doris Day is a treasure but I know she likes to be left alone and I think once a year she makes an appearance in her town for animal protection or something.

Both are classy women and great role models for young girls, especially young girls of color.

Ooohweee! The honorees this year are fantastic. Can't wait to watch the show. All I wanna know is what engineer made Oprah's bra? Yowza! They're like sitting at a 90 degree angle, lol.

Everyone looked great....the only thing I didn't/don't like is the fur.
