Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen rolled the dice in January, 2009 when he hired a 32-year-old with no head-coaching experience named Josh McDaniels to replace long-time coach Mike Shanahan.

Less than two years later, the decision has proved disastrous for a proud Broncos franchise. The 3-9 Broncos now find themselves looking for a leader to dig them out of the hole that has been forged over the last two seasons through iffy personnel decisions, questionable coaching and embarrassing incidents.

While the search for the next Broncos coach has not started in earnest yet, one thing seems clear: the team will be limited in what it can pay its next coach. That's because the Broncos still owe money to Shanahan as well as as McDaniels, meaning they will effectively be paying three coaches next year.

With that caveat in mind, here's a list of the early Broncos coaching candidates who are generating the most buzz this week.
