David Axelrod: WikiLeaks 'Put Lives At Risk' But U.S. Foreign Policy Can 'Withstand' It

Axelrod: WikiLeaks 'Put Lives At Risk'

On Fox News Channel's 'Fox and Friends' Wednesday morning, White House senior advisor David Axelrod pushed back against WikiLeaks' perceived negative influence on U.S. foreign policy.

Host Steve Doocy played a clip of White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs stating, "Our foreign policy, our country is stronger than one guy, with one website," before noting that the WikiLeaks founder's influence was seemingly being downplayed.

Axelrod countered, "Our foreign policy can withstand what happened, but what happened was unacceptable and unconscionable. And it did put lives at risk. That's why we have been shoring up our defense against those kinds of incidents and why the Attorney General is now evaluating this case."

According to the AP, Australian Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd blamed the U.S. for WikiLeaks on Wednesday, saying that, "The bottom line here is that the core of all this lies with the failure of the government of the United States to properly protect its own diplomatic communications."
