Derrick Burts Announces He's HIV-Positive Porn Star (VIDEO)

Derrick Burts, the porn actor who tested positive for HIV, has revealed his identity and called for major changes to the industry, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Burts, who performed in both straight and gay porn under the names Derek Chambers and Cameron Reid, was previously cloaked as Patient Zeta after testing positive at Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation in Sherman Oaks on October 8. He called for mandatory condom use in porn and better sex disease testing.

The clinic announced that he had acquired it through personal intercourse, a charge he disputes. "There is no possible way. The only person I had sex with in my personal life was my girlfriend," he told the paper.

Burts said the clinic told him that they traced the disease back to a "known-positive" gay cast mate. Before HIV, Burts said he had contracted herpes, gonorrhea and chlamydia in the business.

Having sex is like playing with fire; sooner or later you might get burned. There is no 'safe sex'. There could not possibly be a safe sex industry. To the extent that we are implicated in it, even as consumers, we all bear a measure of the guilt for this. Who among us are without sin? (I'm not accusing anybody of anything; I'm just sayin'...)

I can see anyone making a bad decision. Life will go on. We should not Judge anyone who has HIV, or may be exsposed to it. This guy just made a mistake and just taken a chance. I just wish that everyone would practice safe sex and use condom's.

I think this guy has brought judgement on himself, with all that unsafe sex. Some HIV+ people get infected through no fault of their own and then there are guys like Derrick Burts.

I wish people would lay off the guy for making what can be seen as a poor decision.

HIV is a terrible thing regardless how it is contracted. There should be basic safety requirements.

People make poor decisions. We should be focused on HIV prevention and seeking a cure (as well as treatment) because, just my opinion, a poor decision shouldn't be a permanent outcome. I don't give sympathy to people who intentionally put themselves in dangerous situations, but I do think it is more important to focus on eradicating this virus than on judging the one/s who carry it.

Burts said he had contracted herpes, gonorrhea and chlamydia in the business. The ambiguous "HIV" tests are NEVER accurate. You can test positive from a history of STD's or other numerous auto-immun­e challenges­.
PEOPLE, THERE IS NOT ONE SPECIFIC TEST ON THE PLANET THAT SHOWS AN ACTUAL HIV INFECTION.
If you've had an infection such as those or hepatitus you can test positive.
He might not have any infection presently.
The inserts in ALL the current test kits have disclaimer­s that will show everyone of you this..
If he takes another battery of HIV tests in a month or 2, there's a GREAT chance he'll test negative.
PLEASE remember there is NO specific HIV test, it's all about "ANTIBODIES" that are NOT specific to HIV infection but are indicative of a whole bunch of infections or ailments.

We ALL KNOW you can catch a disease without a condom. His point is, he caught 4 in a month. The industry makes BILLIONS! The so-called "safe guards" did nothing. He's speaking out! Can you name one porn actor who has ever called for the protection of the performers in porn?
Plus, he's announcing to the world he is HIV poz! He's doing an awesome service by sharing his story... either listen or condemn... he's making you think.

p24 antigen, an HIV protein was used frequently by blood banks in the US to test for possible HIV (+) blood donations; Viral RNA and DNA are now routinely tested in blood banks and to check the efficacy of treatment in HIV-infected individuals. But Hey what do I know. I'm only an HIV care provider. Please try to read and inform yourself before making these kinds of statements

There are problems with that part of his story, too. AIM Healthcare (the porn industry clinic) does not universally test for herpes. When did he find out? He certainly wasn't in the porn business long?

He also does not make it clear if he contracted any of these STDs on the gay side (no testing) or the straight side (testing at AIM). He paints the industry with a conveniently wide brush, in order to serve his masters at AIDS Healthcare Foundation.

The problem with HIV in this country has almost nothing to do with what happens on the set of a porn film---straight or gay. And its silly to get all worked up about this type of exposure.

Having done some actual professional work in this field I suggest a quick look at some male hook up sites. Sites where people advertise to meet others for NSA sex.

Those who insist on bareback anal sex is far to common. Not a majority. Just far to common.

Pogo was correct----he saw the enemy and the enemy is us.

Gay men or more accurately men who have sex with other men---- who make excuses about how the straights can get it also----are doing a disservice to their community and especially the young kids just coming of age.

Fix the problem.

Porn is a HUGE corporation/industry-and like all capitalist corporations they are known to exploit their labor for personal profits. So.... people in this industry need to take personal responsibilty and insist on protecting themselves-- no one will do it for them.
The women porn "actors" are easily replaced, but the male stars with big anatomy are "harder to come by." Putting them, as a worker, at some advantage.
