The Clelia II cruise ship was in the Drake Passage in the Antarctic when it was was hit by a 30 foot wave, which knocked out one of the ship's engines, disabled the ship's communication system and shattered windows, stranding the 160 passengers on-board, according to CBS News.

Luckily, a National Geographic ship came to its aid and both are now making their way back to its port in Argentina.

None of the passengers were harmed.

WATCH the insane waves below.

My Dad was in the US Navy from 1926-1930, during which time the ship he was on USS Brazos AU-18 made several trips down the coast of South America. He had an old box camera and took several picures from the wheelhouse of storms in the South Atlantic. Looked alot like what you saw in this video. He had to pull lookout duty in the "crow's nest" during a couple of these storms. Terrifiying. The night before Dad died I sat up with him and he was reliving some of those memories. This was 60 years after it happened. When you travel to the bottom of the Earth in a ship these are the kind rides you can expect. Try to imagine doing in a ship during the 15-1600's. NOT ME!

wish I could post some photos of my storm rides!...not much fun if you get seasick and weren't expecting to ride a storm. ground swells are tough, you can surf em and break a lot of dishes or hit them off-head and everybody gets tossed around a bit.

I would be so totally freaked out if I were on that boat. Big waves are one of my greatest fears!

Our friends are leaving Dec 18th for their 15th cruise to Antarctica. He lectures on Holland America ships and loves that part of the trip. Much bigger ship than this one.

The ocean cannot go rogue, it is in its element doing what it does naturally. It is we who are the trespassers riding the ocean's back. Sometimes, I think, it notices we are there and charges us for the ride.

I used to be in the Merchant Marines. I sailed from South Africa to the Cape in South America in 1980. These seas are common down there. Its realllly scary. We had waves that were actually bigger than those you see there and I thought I was going to drown. Its not global warming that causes it its just a really bad place to be on a ship.

A few years ago, we sailed from NYC to Bermuda. The crossing was rough. A couple of times during the night, we were awakened because the rough water had our feet higher than our head. It was a miserable night.

Then, as we were getting ready to return, the Capt came on the loudspeaker and announced we were leaving 5 hours earlier than planned due to "rough weather".

My hubby and I looked at each other, packed our bags and signed out of the cruise. We flew back to JFK.

Days later, we heard from friends who didn't leave the ship - it was horrendous.

Waves had broken the windows of the bridge; water was running down every corridor and every stairwell; people were heaving their gutsout everywhere; the whole ship reeked of sick.

SO glad we left when we did!!

Wow, take a look at where New Zealand is on that map they show.

Unbelievable!
NZ drifted all the way to Africa!
Flying there Friday, hope the pilots are aware of NZ's new location! Maybe i'll do a hop to JoBurg, haven't been there for a long time.

And then you wonder why people in the US are unable to point at anything on a world map...

I don't watch videos that force me to watch a commercial. Big Fail, CBS and Huffpo.
