James Franco Returning To 'General Hospital'

NEW YORK — Actor James Franco is making a conveniently timed return visit to "General Hospital."

ABC said Wednesday that Franco will appear on the soap opera Feb. 25 and Feb. 28.

Franco is co-hosting the Academy Awards ceremony on ABC with actress Anne Hathaway on Feb. 27.

The actor appears occasionally in the soap opera as an oddball artist named Franco. He made his first appearance in that "General Hospital" role in 2009, and returned for an episode June 30 this year.

He appeared in the movie "Eat Pray Love" this summer and is starring in the thriller "127 Hours."

Why on earth is he doing this? Perhaps he is friends with a writer or producer? I have no idea. As far as I am concerned, Franco deserved the Oscar for Milk, not Penn. Franco is one of the most under rated actors. He is a natural and does not make have the same look over and over in different roles like De Niro and Penn. Sorry, just one persons opinion, those two are far over rated.

Last week Franco appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live (which just so happens to be conveniently located across the street from the Kodak Theater where the Oscars ceremony is held) so he could go up on the roof and shout to the tourists on Hollywood Boulevard that he's hosting the show. Now he'll return to General Hospital just days before the Oscars. What do JKL, GH, and the Oscars have in common? They're all based in Los Angeles and they're all on the ABC network. This is a textbook case of cross-promotion, and a masterful one at that. Now I love Franco and his artistic endeavors as much as the next person, but he's still got to play Hollywood reindeer games. This could have been in the planning stages as long as a year ago when Franco first appeared on GH.

I've been a GH fan since I was 6 years old (blame my mom and grandma) and honestly it is the "best" soap on TV. Brenda is back and the story lines are BETTER than ever!!! It is my FAVORITE guilty pleasure!

I hate it. It's a ridiculous character. Everbody in the world knows he's a psychotic killer but for some reason they allow him to have major art shows and never arrest him. GH is increasingly ridiculous and I fast-forward through some of it, but hey, it's my only soap addiction.

Franco is an awsome actor. He's also a writer and director and is taking
writing classes at Columbia and NYU. Being on a soap is hardly anything
he "needs" to do.
