More from the AP:

WASHINGTON — Richard Holbrooke, the Obama administration's special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan, has been hospitalized after falling ill at the State Department.

Department spokesman P.J. Crowley says the 69-year-old Holbrooke was undergoing evaluations at the hospital Friday afternoon, but he declined to provide details.

Officials in Holbrooke's office did not immediately reply to inquiries for further information.

Holbrooke was appointed special envoy by President Barack Obama in the early weeks of his administration and has traveled frequently to Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as to other countries that are coordinating with the United States on policies toward both countries.
