Scarlett Johansson & Ryan Reynolds SPLIT: Divorce After 2 Years Of Marriage

UPDATE: The couple has confirmed their split in a statement:

"After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we've decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it's with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn't expected, it's certainly appreciated."

PREVIOUSLY: TMZ is reporting that Ryan Reynolds & Scarlett Johansson have separated, ending their marriage of two years. Sources tell the site the split was amicable.

Another source talked with Us Weekly about the separation, which happened about two weeks ago.

"They are being very civil about it," the source said, adding that distance and time apart while working led to trouble and Scarlett has been "unhappy for a while."

The famously private couple started dating in 2007 and wed in September 2008. They rarely make public appearances together, but in March Scarlett joined Ryan on SNL when he hosted.

Earlier this year Scarlett gushed about married life to InStyle.

"I mean, you're married and suddenly you have your own family," she said. "There's a nice comfort in that. That part of your life is certain, in a way. You've got your home in that other person."

I agree that they never seemed like a fit - Scarlett has a cool hipster music vibe and Ryan seems really metro, which would be a better match for a Canadian T.V. star.

On top of being too skinny, Ryan has a very feminine chin and nose. I like'em way more rugged than Ryan. I hope she finds a hunky hipster artist-type with a real jawline. Like a modern day Arthur Miller.

Why bother with marriage? It's basically meaningless in our society now. "Umm, you looked at her funny, I want a divorce." So easy to bail, so easy to leave. Just party with the ladies Ryan, marriage is a waste of time.

From the outside their pairing didn't really make sense. He's seems boring (like Tiger, who knew?) and she seemed young and gorgeous. He's Canadian, so it will probably be nice divorce.

You're right. There has to be SOMETHING there if he pulls like that. For the life of me, I just don't see it. But full disclosure, I haven't been paying much attention to him by way of interviews and such. I didn't even read his EW cover interview. I didn't think much of the cover photo either.

Who would want Alanis?? For the life of me I didn't see the attraction. Scarlett a different story for obvious reasons.
I prefer Europeans and Canadians, better educated and not easily manipulated.

I won't comment on Alanis but I do think that Scarlett is rather pretty and a semi respectable actress. I don't see anything redeeming about Ryan and have never enjoyed him in a film, in fact I would say that her singing is better than his acting. She is better off!
