Michele Bachmann: Justice Scalia Will Teach First Congressional Constitution Class

Michele Bachmann Scalia

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) recently said that she's planning to kick off her congressional constitutional education classes for incoming representatives with a bang, now that conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia has allegedly agreed to teach the first course.

In an interview with Lou Dobbs, Bachmann described the forthcoming weekly sessions as similar to "what the NFL does and what the baseball teams do."

"We're going to practice every week, if you will, our craft, which is studying and learning the Declaration, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights," Bachmann explained.

"Justice Scalia has graciously agreed to kick off our class the hour before we cast our first vote in Congress, we'll meet in the Capitol, we'll have a seminar on some segment of the Constitution, we'll have a speaker, we'll have questions and answers, we'll wrap our minds around this magnificent document," Bachmann continued. "That'll set the tone for the week when we're in Washington."

According to Talking Points Memo, the Supreme Court's Public Information Office has not yet verified Bachmann's claim about Scalia, though her office has maintained that the justice and the congresswoman have reached an agreement.

On top of Scalia, Bachmann has intimated her intent to get another member of the Supreme Court bench, Chief Justice John Roberts, to lead a future seminar.

Beyond Supreme Court Justices, Bachmann has also supposedly made plans to court a variety of other conservative stars, such as 9/11 "truther" conspiracist and Judge Andrew Napolitano, Fox News personality Sean Hannity, and controversial Evangelical and separation-of-church-and-state denier David Barton to teach the "bipartisan" classes, AOL News reported last month.

Isn't familiarization with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights something that should be accomplished BEFORE running for public office? This sounds more like a course in how to manipulate the Constitution. Ms. Bachmann and her "students" should be openly mocked for a stunt like this.

Dumb and Dumber at the same event.
As for Scalia ... why don't we change the Constitution to, as it requires 2/3rd majority to override a Presidential Veto, make it the same 2/3rd of the Supreme Court to override THE U.S. POPULAR VOTE IN A PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION!!!!!!!
IMPEACH BENCH STENCH...Scalia!

Just like radical Christians can study the bible, ad infinitum and conclude that the use of torture is acceptable, these right wing whack-jobs will analyze the Constitution in order to destroy it. What's most disturbing -- they are not even aware enough to realize what it is that they are doing until it's way too late.

well isn't this special!! the activist judge Scalia teaching constitution classes. oh!! are he and Michelle going to be taught from Scalia's version of the constitution? because that seems to be how he's been ruling. and Michelle makes it up and she goes along so it should be something.

Perhaps the Texas Board of Education has re-written the Constitution for them, ridding it of all those annoying "liberal" bits. Should be a nice sequel to Andrew Schlafly's new "Conservative Bible" sans all that love and tolerance mumbo-jumbo.

This shows extremely poor judgment, if you will excuse the term by Justice Scalia. He should stay in the court, and not go and rub elbows with republican politicians. No matter what his sensibilities are, which are obviously ultraconservative, there is supposed to be a wall between politics and the judiciary. This shows a complete lack of decorum.

This is completely sick.
He should resign from the Court, or made to leave.
Such blatant corruption in our Judicial system.
Hard to stomach really.

Scalia votes against the founders on a regular basis. Take Citizens United. This is totally against what the founders were doing at the Boston Tea Party etc.

Well Michele, happy to see you know it's never too late to learn. She had better sign up Sister Sarah for classes as well. Both of them and the rest of the Tea Party members and supporters are in dire need of basic first grade through high school civic edumacation, nevermind, higher education.

It is interesting that Ms. Bachmann believes that only Conservatives understand the Constitution or have the ability to even read. She hides the fact that she not only has a law degree but has a masters in tax degree. If only her followers really knew. She is not like Palin, she may be a fox in sheep's clothing with an education to go along with it that would harm her reputation among the "common" anti-big city citizens. Watch out, she may not be as dumb as she sounds. Palin is just out for the money and will never run for President. She has too much personal and other baggage including a lack of intelligence.

Michelle and her group is who will get president Obama reelected. These people are nuts and when they take over thats when the fun begin. Conservatives are nuts and mainstream america is going to get the message loud and clear these next 2 years. By the time the 2012 election is here the country will be sick of the repubs. and especially Michelle type. I think the democrats will never sit in class taught by the court that stole the election for Bush. I also think we all should protest Hannity and any of Fox personnel stepping a foot in to congress to call themselves teaching anybody, anything!!!!!! What a disgrace that would be!!!!

Maybe "Mr Constitution" can go over the 14th Amendment with this nimrod, and she can wrap her brain around the fact that she can't plan an insurrection against the president because she doesn't agree with his health care plan.

Hannity, teach and bi-partisan, all in the same sentence. I sure hope Comedy-Span carries it.
