John Boehner Drinking Too Much? Conservative Asks

John Boehner Drinking

Politics Daily:

As is to be expected, Republican aides and lobbyists are not anxious to publicly discuss whether the incoming House speaker might have a drinking problem. And Boehner's staff declined to discuss the crying question at all. For his part, though, Boehner -- who was described in one profile as "a heavy-smoking, hard-drinking former linebacker" -- has made no secret of his affection for merlot, and those familiar with Capitol Hill know he frequents The Capitol Hill Club, as well as a favorite Italian restaurant on Capitol Hill, where he is frequently spotted sipping vino.

Having had more experience dealing with alcoholics than I care to think about, I find this terrifying. Alcohol doesn't just fog the mind when you're drinking. It doesn't just muddle your brain when you have a hangover. It casts a pall over your entire existence, leaving the drinker chronically depressed, prone to emotional ups and downs, and sometimes irrational. Longterm alcohol abuse can even lead to alcohol-induced dementia, as it did to my mother. To think that the man who will be third in line to the presidency has a drinking problem or is a functioning alcoholic is something that must be addressed. This isn't one of those 'worst kept secrets' that Washington likes to sweep under the rug.

There is, as they say, "an elephant in the room"...and we're not talking about the GOP mascot.

That's got to be scary when even members of your own party think you drink too much.

Have we elected a drunk to be the next speaker of the House? God help us.

On the question of does he have emotional problems: Well he is a republican isn't he ? What else can explain what the Republicans are ?

They seem to me to be children in adult bodies.

I saw a clip of this nonsense the other day and the word that came to mind wasn't drunk the word that came to mind was pathetic. Just like Glenn Beck.

It's certainly been established that he's not thinking too much.

It has to do with rule #1 in Public Speaking 100; “Speak to the level of your audience.” Boehner's target audience is much the same audience of Tammy Faye Baker and Jimmy Swaggart; two big-time crocodiles. Appeal to emotion is a cheap tactic used by cheap people appealing to people who wish and pray for sincere leaders and confuse cheap tears for sincerity. The words, “lights, camera, action” can have Meryl Streep crying within seconds if that is what the script calls for, but she is honest and works as an actress.

On-the-other-hand, Boehner just might also be a melancholy lush.Ted Kennedy could hold himself together under fire, or alcohol, but when anything; stress, merlot, death in a family, takes over your emotions to the point that you are out of control, then maybe politics is not good for you and you are not good for your country. As Speaker of the House Boehner is number three in line after Biden. Think of the image of the United States to the world if our president were a melancholy lush.

My husband commented after 60 Minutes that he thought John Boehner acted and looked like an alcoholic. Is this a good way of life for a Speaker of the House? His judgment will not be sharp.

So long as he professes to honor family values and the working class then do everything he can to destroy the middle class. Otherwise, how would they know he's a republican?

Much like dems did not care about teddy? Or the fact that teddy was responsible for the death of a person while he was hammered? Oh that is right, he is a dem, pass given.
11:54 PM on 12/17/2010
Hope this is your last reference to "Teddy". I've said here that there is NO comparison of the 2 men. Teddy had REAL tragedy in his life, losing half his family in war, accidents or assassinations, yet he handled it all with dignity publically. No red faced blubbering in front of cameras.
Yet Boehner breaks out into quivery blubbering when he's talking about having to sweep floors when he was a little boy. There is NO comparison.
