Michelle Obama & Daughters Head To Hawaii For Christmas

First Posted: 12/17/10 02:44 PM ET Updated: 05/25/11 07:20 PM ET

Michelle Obama Hawaii

On Saturday, First Lady Michelle Obama, daughters Sasha and Malia, and First Dog Bo will fly by military plane to Hawaii, the president's home state, according to Politics Daily.

This is the second Christmas trip they will take to Hawaii as the first family. Obama famously body-surfed on the beaches of Oahu during his campaign; flashed his abs on the way from the gym when he was president-elect (click here see more photos of shirtless presidents); and the first family rented the "Winter White House" in 2009.

Michelle and her daughters will fly on a military version of a business plane to avoid the criticism her August trip to Spain endured. President Obama will join his family in Hawaii once Congress has finished work.

The family will return to Washington on January 1.

The only people I heard complaining about any of their transportation was all of the pundits and reporters on FAUX and the Republicans and Conservatives - you know, the same folks who would complain if the 10 million they just won in the lottery showed up in the wrong color briefcase.

This is Christmas, let's just leave our First Family alone. A mom and a dad and two little girls with their grandma towing the family pup behind. Give them the same understanding and love that you would give to the most precious members of your family circle.

Personally, I don't know why they would be making any kinds of concessions based on what the public has to say when it is clear that many people are still unhappy that there is a black family in the White House that isn't cleaning or serving meals.

The FLOTUS is criticized for her dress when she has chosen to go with lesser known and more affordable designers while Nancy Reagan was admired for her her extravagant gowns.

The Obamas have been criticized for their "parties" when in most cases they are benefit events or soirees that promote diversity, education and culture.

They can't even get a break when they feed the hungry or read stories to kids.

And didn't the Republicans criticized Michell Obama's passion to ensure that kids eat healthy?

You can't win with that kind of hate.

You stated this so well. Obama was criticized for liking Dijon mustard - for encouraging kids to work hard and stay in school!! You're right - they can't win!

Having the First Lady and her children fly on military transport rather than Air Force 2 is ridiculous! What's next? Putting them on a tramp steamer? This is an appalling development and I don't recall any other First Family having to travel like this. To hell with the opposition party and what they think! They don't vote with the President anyway so what difference does it make if they're alienated? This is one time when I wish Rahm Emanuel was still in the White House. I sincerely doubt if he would have put up with this for one second!

I often wonder how much harm being a president causes the children. Perhaps they are well screened but in this day and age it must be impossible to keep all the madness away.

I hope they have a wonderful, happy holiday. It has been a long, hard year for the First Family and I'm sure they're exhausted. The girls are growing like weeds and just think, by 2012 Malia will be a teenager. (Load up those Predator drones LOL) I too would love to see Bo in the ocean, chasing anything that moves. They're all just sooooo cute! Nuth'n but luv 4 them.

All I want for Christmas this year is pictures of Bo playing in the waves. Or, maybe even meeting a fish or crab for the first time. :)

I can't remember which name is which, but the older daughter is growing like crazy, while the little one is staying the same. Maybe it just seems that way.

She probably hit a growth spurt; it happens around that age. I grew 6 inches in one year.

I wonder when they will fly over to the Big Island and check out Kilauea volcano.

The Volcanoes National Park even has a military camp, with small bowling alley and golf course.

I hope the Obama's do NOT spend time at Kilauea Military Camp....imagine all the security and fuss. A first family visit would prevent deserving military personnel and their families from enjoying the facility. Military members make a modest wage - why take an R&R privilege away from those who selflessly serve our country. There is probably little chance that the Obama's would travel that way anyhow....they are accustomed to much grander accommodations. God bless our military and their families....THANK YOU for all that you do for our country!

Very true, KMC is VERY modest and cold by Hawaii standards, but the Vocano is AWESOME.
My guess it would be a day trip for the whole family anyway.

I'm surprised how many active and retired services people do not know about KMC being available for them to stay at if they wish to take a vacation in on the big island of Hawaii.
