In the competitive world of luxury travel, hotels will try anything to woo customers - from wine baths, pet psychics, and caviar facials to gourmet cooking classes, revolving rooms, and other extravagant extras.

Below, ShermansTravel.com has assembled a list of the latest out-there accoutrements. See even more on their Amenity Watch blog.

In-house Library, Andaz 5th Avenue
1 of 8
Last summer Andaz 5th Avenue opened across the street from the iconic New York City Public Library. In a neighborly gesture, the famed library worked with the new hotel to create an on-site library for guests to use. Located in a nook on the hotel’s ground floor, the Library at Andaz 5th Avenue has over 700 hand-selected books – a sort of “greatest hits” derived from the 20 million-title collection across the street. While all books are officially on loan from NYPL, guests are not required to hold a library card and the Andaz library operates on an honor system. Even better, the hotel has a stash of complimentary tickets for guests to attend various LIVE from the New York Public Library events. Featured upcoming speakers include Siddhartha Mukherjee, Zadie Smith, and Derek Walcott.

Nice to see that The Surrey is not on the bed bug registry, as many NYC hotels are:

Just deliver my drink to my door and forget all that mixologist demonstration stuff! I despise this sort of intrusion on my privacy and it rankles me that anyone thinks it's just terrific. It reminds me so much of that food prep at your table. I simply won't allow it and I will not go anywhere where this occurs. I don't even want it for my dessert. Just give me the damned food!
