Tom Ford Weighs In On Carine Roitfeld's Resignation

Carine Roitfeld shocked the fashion world on Friday with the announcement of her resignation from French Vogue...and Roitfeld devotees immediately started speculating about what would be next for the Parisian powerhouse. Perhaps some sort of collaboration with Tom Ford?

That guess kinda made sense -- Carine handed over the glossy's holiday issue to Ford and she's constantly praising the designer, previously telling WWD, "I always say, 'Tom has an eye like a scanner.' [....] He is truly multitalented."

However, Cathy Horyn reached out to Ford and here's what he said: "Carine and I have no plans to work together at the moment, and it is nothing that we have even discussed, but of course I think she is brilliant and we are close friends so who knows about the future."

In terms of Carine's replacement at French Vogue, the New York Times reports that a successor will be named early next year. Who's most likely to take the helm? According to the former Creative Director of French Vogue Fabien Baron (who spoke with the Times), the mag's current Fashion Director, Emmanuelle Alt, will probably assume the position.

She's the editor of French Vogue for goshsakes... she could use some styling (I'm not talking just about the pic in the article. I've never seen her look pulled together. She's just a lukewarm mess.) Why does Tom look cross-eyed in this photo? Perhaps he stared at her leopard print shmata for too long.

There is a certain aesthetic that French women- and British women -have that is very different from American women. First of all it is a myth that French women are always perfectly put together. The majority are not and they find it bourgeoisie to be so. There style is a bit more off kilter, they don't like to be overtly sexy most of the time either.

Understood.. it's also a matter of age. I've noticed that 20-something's care less about a polished look than a certain care-free (read: dirty looking hair) look. Though I must say that some of the most elegant, put together women of any age are French. I'm thinking of Catherine Deneuve, Jaqueline de Ribes... oops, these women are either very old or dead... Perhaps I'm just too old :)
