The Atlantic:

The repeal of the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" law barring gays and lesbians from serving openly in the armed forces won't be implemented for a few months yet, but it will immediately lead elite colleges to begin to reconcile with the military training program kicked off college campuses more than four decades ago.

Harvard University President Drew Gilpin Faust promised in a November joint appearance with Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Adm. Mike Mullen at the school's Institute of Politics that the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) programs would return to Harvard once the Don't Ask law was repealed.

This will be an interesting tangent to the DADT debate. The question is "Was ROTC kept off college campuses because of the DADT policy or was it just kept off because of anti-war attitudes?" Time will tell.

Like most college kids, the Ivy kids are liberal pacifists and the wars currently fuel more interest of the right wing to join the ROTC than the left. So given this, they are unlikely to welcome the ROTC with open arms. Some will allow the ROTC, there just won't be enough joining.

Stereotypical thinking is very unbecoming.

I don't think the Ivy League ever wanted the ROTC to appear on their prestigeous campus. They'll come up with a different reason to keep the military off campus, ultimately.

One of the less publicized benefits to the repeal of DADT. As it enters the relm of entities that are in line with the non-descriminatory polices held by most respectable colleges, ROTC will be allowed to participate as a fully fledged student org.

Its about time.
