LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles police detectives say they have tentatively identified 29 of the 160 women whose photos were found in the home of a mechanic suspected of being the "Grim Sleeper" serial killer.
Detectives said Monday none of those 29 women had been victims in the case, and the majority were alive and well. A few had died from natural causes.
The LAPD website where the photos were posted last week got thousands of hits. Police were inundated with phone calls, emails and other tips after asking the public for help in determining the fate of the women.
The photos were found in the home and garage of suspect Lonnie Franklin Jr. during a search after his July arrest. He has pleaded not guilty to the murders of 10 women.
